What do you folks from NYC think about the Cold Steel Super Edge for a concealed EDC. This makes a pretty good box, rope, home improvement store knife.

Just not sure how it would be viewed.

If you can flip the blade open, they consider it a gravity knife. This includes holding the blade and flipping open the handle.

Well, you can't flip the blade open, so you've got that going for you.

I googled it to make sure I remembered what you were talking about, and found this decscription, which is not helpful:

"Cold Steel Super Edge Dagger"

"It's so light and comfortable to carry you'll never notice it when it's casually looped around your neck, conveniently laced to your shoe or cunningly pinned inside the crown of your hat."

Knife laws in NY are fairly subjective. I don't have a firm answer for you, but one judge recently noted at a sentencing that the fact that a knife was serrated suggested to him it was carried for evil purposes.

I think if you truly need a tough little knife for the kind of work that you do, it's probably a very good choice and your decision is probably reasonable and sound.

If you are just looking for a general purpose pocket knife in NYC, I personally would reccommend a swiss army knife.

Wow, if it is serrated, then it is being carried for evil purposes!

I guess that judge never did work on his own home..................

sliplock, any more info on that serrated issue? Never heard that one......was it a simple weapons charge? What was the sentence ?

It was a Hobbes Act robbery case. One of the defendants had a knife in his pocket when they got locked up.

The sentencing was actually pretty light (due in large part to the hard work of a close friend of mine).

The remark was made from the bench, and does not appear in any published opinion.

But it was clear that the judge considered the serrated folder to be a weapon.
