Not a true sword, more of a rather long ice pick but seemed to be made fairly well for the price. I saw a friends Cold Steel Sword Cane the other day and was impressed with it's workmanship for the price that he paid. Many of these sword canes are pretty ratty unless you get into the higher dollar price. Anyone have experience or knowledge of the blade thats being used and it's ability to withstand actual use. Thanks in advance

Hi, Sarge. In my experience, most sword canes are neither good swords nor good canes. Perhaps a custom maker could make a good one, or get a stout cane and put a pointy steel ferrule on the bottom. Can always cover with a rubber cap or something...

please don't take this as an accurate quote. i'm just trying my best to recall:

1. it comes in a standard length!! the author who tested the cane couldn't use it as one.

2. torture test with the sword inside. the metal knob will give you a solid bludgeon. the fiberglass shaft is also adequate as a fighting stick (with limits). however, a little rattling inside started to come out. the sword got stuck a number of times. still, you can definitely fight with it. the rattling was never remedied.

3. testing the cane without the sword. again, a good weapon. the fiberglass wound is very durable.

4. the sword itself - the handle is definitely a bum to use. there's no hilt to speak of. but the sword itself performed pretty well. it was definitely a man-sticker. well, the author wanted to torture-test the weapon to the point of failure. first cardboard targets, no prob. then an old punching back, a slight bending after several hard and wiggly thrusts. soft wood: permanent bending (can be repaired through soft hammering after which you still have a decent man-killer).

apologies for the dubious reproduction.

I have an old spanish riding crop dagger that is just awesome and businesslike. If I had a sword cane, the cane must snugly fit the sword, which I would fashoin from a heat treated traingle section )rev war) bayonet. thqat should stand up th thrusting.
