Cold Steel Tai Pan 3V - sheath does not fit?

Hi Everyone! I just bought a Cold Steel Tai Pan in 3V. When I arrived home and opened the package I surprisingly realized that the Tai Pan does not go into the sheath... it gets stuck halfway... the sheath seems to be too tight. I could force it in of course, but it does not make sense as I would kill the edge and it would be impossible to remove the knife probably after this stunt. Is this common with the Tai Pan sheaths? I saw mentions of defective Secure-Ex sheats all accross the internet, but this is strange for me. Is there an easy fix for this besides throwing it into the trash and have a custome one made of leather or something? Thanks in advance for your advise!

It's not common but it does happen sometimes. You should return it for an exchange as you just bought it. But many prefer to get an aftermarket sheath anyway as those secure-ex sheaths siometimes dulls the edge,

Thanks! Well... now I'm thinking about an aftermarket sheath as I like the knife and I got it with a good discount (compared to the usual European prices)... Thanks for your quick reply.

I would return it for two reasons. First they need to be made aware there is a problem. Second if you ever have to sell it you will get considerably less from most buyers without the original sheath, even with a nice custom sheath. Plus when you sell you can sell the custom one separately and possibly get more back from your expenditures. Ask me how I know lol.

Hi! Update: I put the sheath on the top of my toasters to heat it up. When it got hot, I just slid in the blade a couple of times and then let it cool down with the blade in it. Now it’s working fine. Not perfect, but the sheath is usable. I used this trick on kydex before, I didn’t know it works on secure-ex. I wanted to share it here so people with the same problem can help themselves. I also sent the info to Cold Steel with all the details of my product and the solution.

I carry a SRK SK-5 when I am out in woods, fields etc. I decided to get a SRK 3v while still available. I thought I could use the same sheath as I use a Blade Tech clip on the sheath. I tried to put the 3V in the SK5 sheath and it would not go. It would not go in a San Mai sheath either. Yet all the SRK's will go in the 3V sheath. I do not have the tools/devices to measure the blades, I am guessing the 3V blade is wider than the others.

Interesting, I had a handmade SRK sheath from Hale Storm Hale Storm and did not specify the type of SRK and it fit perfectly (I have a 3V). I know that they have changed the grind around, not sure when, but that could be it. Could be wrong but I think they have always been 5mm.
