Cold Steel Tanto Spike

I just wanted to take a minute to give my initial impresions of this knife. It was given to me as a present by my girlfriend the other day to carry on duty for a bit of extra protection. At first I was skeptical about carrying this knife around due to its size, but that soon subsided. It is very comfortable. I wore it all day yesterday, and forgot it was even there. The knife is screaming sharp!!! It has a flat grind with a zero degree bevel. It should be easy to sharpen. Also the fact the steel is that 420 sub quenched stuff should make it easy to take care of. I am still wondering about the corrosion resistance though. I am sure that CS though about that though before producing the knife. For a defensive piece, I am sure this knife will be awesome. I did use it for real small cutting chores, like opening a bag of cough drops, and stuff like that. Any how, the sheath is well made out of some kind of plastic material, and it also hangs well. There are some small belt slots in it as well. I am thinking about making a pocket clip for it though for ITW carry. In conclusion, I feel this is a nice little self defense package. For the $25-30 it costs to get one, it is well worth it. Heck, I may get another one and dull it up for a practice blade.

As you say, it's a cool little knife for the money. I like the tapered point model a little better than the tanto, but doubt it makes any real difference. The only problem I see is legal: It's a big no-no in Los Angeles, even for open carry.

Just one question: What is a zero degree bevel?

Is that like a convex edge?

0 degree bevel means there is no real bevel to the edge. It just meets at a point. Just imagine if there was no bevel at the edge. It's just flat grinded to the edge.

I absolutely hate CA for their knife laws...its one reason I'd never live there...

I have 2, I never seem to get them at sharp as they were out the box. But great little knives, often carried when I'm out after dark. I expect they're a great stabbing tool.

CA knife laws aren't too bad at all. Some cities are more strict, however.

Hey USAF....

How are you carrying this knife ???

Maybe I should send you a proper sheath for long term field testing..:)

Drop me a note, and when I get caught up here,, I'll shoot you one down to try out...
