Hi,

I am thinking about buying a Cold Steel Tanto as I think these are quite a classic design.

I notice that they produce these in several different lengths and different blade materials.

I am probably going to get the six inch version which comes in AUS8A for the standard and san mai III for the master.
(Though am tempted by 7 inch version!)

The san mai blade is more expensive where I get em from. Does this material really performm so well as to justify the extra cost ? as compared to the AUS8A version ?

Any comments would be very welcome.

Also does anyone have any sugestions for other Tantos I should look at in a similar price range. Ive looked at the Bob Lum spyderco. Any others I should look at ?

Get CS DVD "More Proof" san mai is reported to be 25% stronger than aus8a.
Longer blades usually equal more cutting power; All things being equal.

IF your brand x and brand y tantos made by same maker; same qc etc...I wont advertise for them but they are my favorite production blade

I thought the original style Cold Steel tanto was pretty cool.
Like the looks of the new ones but I held the little one and it was just too small in the hand. Probably would make a pretty good hideout knife but wouldn't really want to have one as a user.

I did have the larger Oyabun model. I think it had a 9 inch blade. The handle is a little thicker than the small one and I kind of liked it. Except the sheath seemed to put a dull spot about two inches from the tip. Aside from that the sheath is pretty cool.
I ended up giving it to my ex-girlfriend as a teddy bear. She loves it.

Ive heard some pretty terrible things about their San Mai steel. Id skip it.
