First off, pardon my noobishness, I've been on here for a while, but just created an account

I know these are two really different knives, but for roughly the same price, would you rather purchase a 4" aluminum Ti-Lite or a Spyderco Endura 4 ffg? Uses will be EDC as well as just collection and personal use. As of now I see the Ti-Lite being the "cooler" of the two blades, but the Endura as being more applicable.

Any Thoughts?

Endura all the way... The Ti-Lite was made for "stabbing" not utility. Also, Lite might be illegal to carry in your area if they outlawed double edged blades.

Poker Defense or normal EDC? I know you want both of them for 2 different things.

My vote is Spyderco

FFG endura. There are alot of fans of the ti-lite, and the aluminum version is definately the one to go for if it's your thing... but it doesn't trip my trigger.

I've got a friend who really likes Spyderco, and they have some REALLY nice knives... For me personally though, I do not care for the style of their blades.

the Cold Steel Ti-Lite is more or less a defensive blade. It's designed for stabbing. I like the novelty of it.

If you want an EDC, I'd have to go Spyderco. I'm not a Spyderco fan at all, and I'm still saying that. I own several Cold Steel knives and some of them are great, but the Ti-Lite seems to be made specifically for self-defense. EDC doesn't normally just pertain to self-defense. You want your EDC to be capable of anything you might encounter throughout the day. The Endura would be the best bet, capable of utility tasks or whatever, and if it came down to it self-defense. I know the Spyderco guys train with them and also have instructional videos about self-defense with them if that's what you like.

No, the Ti-Lite is not double-edged.

I think you'll find the Endura way more useful for utility tasks. The Endura's blade is a great, useful shape, and the handle is more comfortable, while the Ti-Lite is less than ideal (not as comfortable in the hand) for extended work. However, the Ti-Lite is plenty durable. It is worth noting, as well, that the Ti-Lite does look more "scary" to the average Joe or Jane Sixpack.

Yes it is

No, it isn't. I've owned two. The Ti-Lite has a single sharpened edge as well as a false edge or swedge, which is not sharpened, toward the spine of the blade. It is legal to own and carry in most states, including California.

Oh, and having owned both, Endura all the way. No doubt. Buy a Ti-Lite for fun. Buy an Endura for everything else, and fun.

Ti lite looks cool but I wasn't impressed with mine. Not terribly practical, and mine wasn't terribly well made. It's a single-edged knife. I don't regret selling mine.

Edit: Mine is single edged I assume all ti-lites are also single edged like mine, unless someone sharpens the swedge.

You might also like the Counter Point or Hold Out if you really like the spear point blade/dagger look but want a better slicer and more beefy build.

Taking into account that, yes, you are "noobish" and by no means am I an expert on these things, but do a bit of research about blade shapes. The Spyderco offers a lot more EDC capabilities. I've owned an Endura for years and it has been absolutely awesome. I have the VG-10 version. It sharpens well and does whatever I've needed it to. It's a staple in my EDC rotation of folders.

Endura of course. I have had a single-edged Ti-lite ;) It is OK. But not really practical - good only for stabbing. Something not right with it. Should have bronze and real wood or horn/bone somewhere on it. Did not work for me. Endura on another hand is an excellent EDC.

I edc'd an Endura for quite a few years and currently edc a 6inch Ti-Lite. Most of my edc tasks are opening packages, cutting tape, removing threads, etc, and I actually prefer the Ti-Lite's blade shape. Fit and finish on mine is excellent, however depending on what you carry in your pocket, the coating on the aluminium will tend to chip.

Like everyone else has said, it's not double edged.
