What's everyone think of Cold Steel Ti-Lites? I've heard good stuff about the "real" versions with titanium, but I've also heard the zytel version is crap. What are your opinions?

I have one of the zytel models, and I don't think it's crap at all. I alwasy have it when I'm wearing pants sturdy enough to not tear with their 'wave' like opening. I also make sure I have it when I'm downtown at night or something, just because it makes such a perfect fist pack should I need it. It has a nice weight, keeps a decent edge. It is good for the money, no doubt.
As for the ti-handled ones, I think you can find a better knife to drop two c-notes on.

Hi Guys
I have a zytel one. Carries well in BDU's nice and pointyand locks up tight. price is reasonable too. I think it als appeals to the hoodlum in me looking like the switchblade I can't own. All in all a good little knife for the money.

I forgot to mention how much I like the mechanism on the zytel. Not even counting the 'wave' ripoff at this point. I can cold it and push out the blade with the tip of my thumb. It shoots out as fast as a stiletto! My fingers hardly move at all. It looks like I just hit a button. I'm a big fan of the mechanism. Really fun.

Well, you can pick up the TI version for $110 + shipping at moviesword.com, do you think its worth it?

That sounds like a pretty nice deal. However if you have not handled it already, I would suggest getting yourself to a knife store ASAF to check one out in person. I would say go for it if you really want to try it out. Worse comes to worse, you can always sell it on ebay for $130.

I have the Zytel version, and am quite fond of it. It has a relatively low weight for a knife with a 4" blade and is very handsome. Also, notice that the handle is only .75" longer than the blade, making it very efficient in terms of folding and conserving space in one's pocket.

I got mine from Knifeworks and paid $50.

It wasn't a "ripoff". Phil's been using those horn on his custom version of the Ti-Lite for years.

i have the ti version. i like the added weight of the Ti instead of zytel, which also comes in handy if you decide to use the closed knife as an oversized kubaton.

was my EDC until i got a cuda maxx stiletto.

I had the Zytel version but I ended up selling it. Not that it was a bad knife, but it just wasn't for me. I'm not a fan of that blade shape. Also the blade is a little too thin for my taste. It just seemed to have more handle than blade(does that make sence? ). Of course these things are just my perferances. If you like that kind of knife, then the Cold Steel Ti-Lite should serve you well.

I carry my zytel version for some time now,
and had to order 3 more, 1 for a friend as a EDC, 1 for my boss, and the last for the doughter of one of them.
I like the design, but hate the holes in the grip -
they seems to suck every little dirt from the pocket and glue it into them.
:grumpy:

The liner lock seems to be well made, and feels very secure - the outwards side of it is bent downwards 90 degrees. It is hard to describe.

The blade is very thin, cuts well, and takes and holds a good edge. The tip is VERY pointy and very delicate. The knife is handle heavy due to the thin blade - some people like this while others don't'

The "wave" mechanism on it is OK. I haven't practiced using it like it is meant to be used, but it does work. If you have strong fingers, you can use the horns of the knife as a flipper, though this is difficult. Opening the knife by the thumbstuds alone is very difficult, because they are flush with the handle.

IMHO, this is a lot of knife for the money, and certainly one of the best deals that CS has going. Zytel sometimes warps slightly over time, but I don't think that this factor is relevant if the zytel is being used for scales.

Do you use the tip of your thumb or the pad of your thumb to open your Ti-Lite? I use the pad of my thumb, and have no trouble opening the knife whatsoever, although I had to loosen the pivot screw a bit from the factory tension.

Using the horns or the thumbstuds? I prefer to open it using one of the horns as a flipper with the tip of my forefinger, without flicking my wrist.

Hi, I have the Zytel version, at $50 this thing is great. I bought it soon after CS started making them and I've carried mine ever since. It still locks up tight and the tip is stronger than it looks in the pictures as long as you don't pry anything with it. Yes, you can "wave" it out of your pocket using one of the guards, or use one of the horns as a flipper, but I prefer to open it manually with my thumb. Hello Will P. Did you get a ti-lite too or did you try mine?
