Ok, So around 2:30 yesterday it came from savsonswordandknives.com.
The box was quite large for a knife. Anyway after i opened it i was suprised to see how big it was. The handle was about 7 inches (a little to big i think) when i hold it in a fist theres still another half of the handles ( and i have big hand) acctualy. you could hold it with both hands at once. Once i opened the blade it self i was self, it was very big for a folder.I mean really big. Sharp on 1 side not both. Overall Its a pretty good knife i sugest you get one, Cold steel acctauly made somthing pretty nice. Thanks for reading :D

The VI Ti-lite and X2 Voyager are my 2 favorite Cold Steel knives. Both are keepers.

Another vote for the Ti-Lite VI. It's not very practical (obviously designed as an "anti-personnel" device), but it's extremely solid and well made, and there's no denying the sheer "coolness" factor of such a huge folder. I'm going to pick up the new aluminum handled version too when they become available.

Back when I was a teenager I used to carry a non auto Italian picklock with a 6" bayonet blade. When I saw the CS one I could not help but think of the old Italian one so I ordered one and well it’s built a lot better than my old one. While in keeping somewhat with the original Italian lines I think the CS has made it much stronger and overall tougher. It’s a keeper.

ok so my question about them is is it really a just an assisted opener, from the description that what it seems like but it still is referred to as a switch blade?

I don't think they have any type of assistance.

Nope. All the TI-Lites are strictly manual. They have thumbstuds (left side of blade for right handed opening) and the quillions can be used to flip or wave the blades open.

edit: The 6" has enough blade weight that it can be snapped open by just flicking the wrist, though I prefer just to use the thumbstud. The 4"ers are virtually impossible to open with the stud, as it doesn't stick out far enough beyond the scale (at least on the zytel version I have), so I use the quillion as a flipper on that model.

I looked at them a bit, and I don't like the 6" model. It is WAY too big. I see absolutely no reason to ever own a folder with a blade over 4", and a 6" blade is rediculous. The 4" version looks alright, but I don't like the thumbstuds as much. Might pick one up eventually.

I have the ti-lite small one and love it. wish they would do it with a black micarta handle with brass screws.

I routinely carry a 6" Cold Steel Vaquero Grande in the woods. I use it to cut thorns and branches out of my way and to clear vines trapping my feet.

I beat their 6" X2 Voyager to death in no time trying to use it the same way. But the 5" Voyager makes a decent kitchen and carving knife, and so does the 5.5" CUDA Maxx bowie.

Not every big knife has to be seen as a weapon.

Hey, I'm just about to order the ti-lite as well, and thinking of which handle material I should get. Should I get the zytel handle or the aluminum handle? My friend just told me they discontinued the titanium handle version and have replaced it with the aluminum handle inserts.

I'm new to this forum and can't find out where the PM (Private Messaging) and the search buttons are. Someone please help me out:confused:

I didn't mean no use besides a weapon, I was just referring to my belief that when you start using folders with 6" blades, the handles begin to get rediculous. I much prefer fixed blades when dealing with anything over 4-5".

60 watt, welcome to Bladeforums!

I don't know if the Ti-Lite metal handles are much better than Zytel. That's probably an individual call. They look good, though! I had the titanium, but I imagine the aluminum will be very similar.

Welcome, 60_watt. To PM someone, just click on their user name and select "Send private message" which comes up under their name. As far as zytel vs. aluminum. I have both sizes in zytel, and there's certainly nothing wrong with them, but I'm getting the aluminum 6" as well just because I think it'll look and feel a little cooler than the zytel. If price is a consideration, the aluminums are running about $20-50 more, depending on size and place of purchase. There was a bigger difference in material costs (and perhaps performance, maybe, possibly...) when the regular Ti-Lites used Ti scales and springs, but now the only diff should be the scale material.

D'oh! Esav beat me to it. I guess you'll have to upgrade for PMs, but it's only $10/year for Basic Membership.

for something like this aluminum vs titanium wont matter much , not sure if they changed the design but if it is the same shape and size it will just be lighter and more than likely you wont notice much of a difference other than that

Sr matt is right, the only thing you loose with the the AL verson is the coolness of forged Ti. (and some weight) However the Al. model is much tougher the the zytel model.

I actually prefer the Zytel scales...much, much better grip retention. With the aluminum scales you are into a heavier knife. For the six inch Ti-Lite, this is 9oz compared to the Zytel version which runs a little over 6.5oz. The Zytel knife handles well, and is very nicely balanced. My concern with the aluminum version is that this balance will be somewhat adversely affected.

But in the end, those slippery smooth metal scales are just too hard to hang on to for me, though they are rather handsome to look at.

The Titanium ones have VG-1 blades, the aluminum ones dropped back to AUS-8A.

I have both 4inch titanium and zytel ones. I'll be honest, I like the titanium one better, it's just classier, but it's nearly 3 times the cost of the zytel ones. the aluminum ones look like an interesting compromise in price and quality in between the 2, so we'll have to see.

The fit and finish difference is interesting. I can snap open the titanium one (the wrist flick method) but it will not "pop", however the zytel one won't flick open (lighter handle), but it will "pop" really nicely like a switchblade.

When I mean pop, i mean if you push up on the thumbstud opposed to flicking it sideways, the combined pressure will force the blade to snap open like a switchblade does, pretty cool to do.

Both are a good value imho, but if you can find a decently priced titanium one, I'd grab it cause they are discontinued.

Andrew,
Since you work for Cold Steel, perhaps you can answer a question regarding the newer Ti-Lites (maybe they should change the name to Al-Lites now;)). I know that, in the description of the older, Ti-handled Ti-Lites, they were said to have a Titanium leaf-spring (liner) lock. What type of material is used for the leaf-spring (liner) lock on the newer Ti-Lites with Al handles?

Thanks,
3G
