cold steel tomahawks - which one?

Hello all,

Interested in getting my first tomahawk. From what I have been able to read so far the cold steel tomahawks are a good "starter" that I can modify and wanted to get suggestions on which to start with. The purpose of it is going to be tool 1st and weapon/throwing second so I don't want the spike hawk and while I really like the norse and will probably get one as a "weapon first" tomahawk eventually I want to start with one of the hammer back ones as a backup hammer. So this leaves the pipe hawk, the trail hawk and the riflemans hawk. So what are the big differences between these (size/weight/purpose) and which one would you recommend and why?

Thanks for the help!

I'm sure you know, but a hawk is not an axe, and it deffinately isn't a knife. The beauty of them are the versatility they bring to the board. They can compliment a good bushcrafting knife, like no other, in my opinion. I think your going in the right direction by looking for a hammer polled hawk first. Of the three you listed, I would toss out the rifleman hawk first thing. Its just personal opinion, and many disagree, but its too heavy to carry for bushcrafting purposes. With that done, its a toss up between the trail and pipe hawks. I just got a new pipe in the mail about 45 min ago, and am gonna start modding it asap. I love the trail hawks super light weight. The pipe has a larger cutting surface. They both make decent throwers, if you like that. Theyre both good hawks. Idk my friend? Take a coin, and flip for it lol.

Get both the trail hawk and the pipe hawk. I personally don't have a need for the hammer back ones. But I would prefer the pipe hawk, looks better when modified if you go down the traditional route. The trailhawk looks more modernized to me.

I love my trail hawk, but honestly, I would go with the pipe hawk. It looks a bit more authentic, and is a bit heavier.
The rifleman is, frankly, rather ugly, I find. I would use it as a door stop or something if I had one.
