i have taken an interest in regional traditional pocket knives lately (douk douk, okapi, mercator, higonokami, opinel, etc... if you have any suggestions please let me know.)
Which led me to the CS pocket bushman. I just ordered one so i cannot comment on functionalty first hand. But from the looks of it, it is an upgraded (maybe not in steel but in locking) rendition of a douk douk or mercator, CS style. It is certainly bulkier and heavier looking than a true traditional, but it got me thinking, what if cold steel made a more moderate (i know, not really in their vocabulary) version? That ram safe lock looks amazing and it seems like traditionals are quite popular. I am thinking something more along the dimensions of the mercator or douk douk, but maybe with a different CS style. Possibly a similar blade shape to the luzon. Hopefully in carbon steel. Just a thought, let me know if i am the only one who would like to see something like this or if you have anything to add.

Traditionals are mostly popular with people BECAUSE of their traditions. Adding different locking mechanisms and stuff like that tends to kill all interest from the majority of the traditional crowd.

And to be honest, what you're describing sounds like a completely different knife to begin with, one that has almost nothing in common with the traditional you are wanting it based on, so I'm not sure what the point of basing it on a traditional would be anyways. When you're wanting a different lockup, a different blade shape, and a different style, it sounds like you're not actually wanting anything like the traditional version to begin with...

Fine douk douk “inspired”
It would be a different knife!
Cold steel is known for taking historical examples and remaking them with modern styles and functions, so i dont get why what i am suggesting is so off base. The luzon itself is supposed to be based on a balisong. is it a balisong? no! Is it cool none the less? I think so!

I have the pocket bushman. It is big. Thin in the pocket. Very sturdy. Use caution closing and opening. Mine has a gator snap. Call it the guillotine.

Well this is confusing :)

Do people who collect and love balisongs specifically like it and buy it? No! Cause it has basically nothing in common with them. Same as what you were asking for would have in common with the traditionals you were talking about liking so much. It'd make more sense to just say you want a really thin folder rather than talking about traditionals and how you want something like them that is by your own description not like them.

Whatever Cold Steel puts out is amazing. Honestly, they are the company that has been pushing the limits with new designs and bringing traditional blades to the masses since 1980! I can't even think of another company that has pushed the limits as much as CS.

Sounds reasonable, really no different than the thousands of restomod cars built(or even the new Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger;though that is more of a stretch). Traditional looks with modern improvements, what's not to like.
