Cold Steel Trail Boss Replacement Handle

I gave my son a Trail Boss for Christmas. His first axe, he's been excited to put it use. We went out into the woods this weekend and the handle broke. He said one of his friends was abusing it - though it didn't really sound like the handle should have broken... but regardless. He's bummed, I told him it's a great opportunity to learn to put in a new one.

Can we get some advice on where to get a replacement handle, and maybe a tutorial on installation? Thanks.

You should repost in the ax, tomahawk, and hatchet forum. There is a ton of information on re-hanging axes, and maybe someone there has already done a Trail Boss. Judging by the size and shape of the handle, it's not going to be an off-the-shelf sort of thing unless Cold Steel sells replacements. It's not a big deal as long as you are willing to put in some filing and sanding time.

Also.... I noticed the blade was chipped when I was taking this picture... that's kind of a bummer too:

Sorry to see that chip on your boy's new axe. It can be a lesson about abusing an axe and lending an axe to unknowledgeable friends.

I blame children for rotting my brain. That, and I was just reading at the Cold Steel forum before I had to go make lunch for those kids and I lost my place. I can't claim sarcasm when it was just being stupid....I really should go back to drinking caffeinated coffee.

If the brain were so simple we could understand it,
Then we would be so simple we couldn't.
I'll take a cup of that coffee.
