the Japanese made version in san mai, to me is the best version. cold steel stopped making the Japanese model and all we have now is the Taiwan san mai. which is good, but not as good.

Hello there mate thank you kindly for the response ive had it in my basket for a couple of days on the website I was hesitant about ordering it just with the mixed reviews on cold steel lately, i think I’ll treat myself to it since you’ve told me there no longer in production maybe it’ll be a rare knife soon doubt I’ll get another chance to purchase it especially hear in the uk.

Again I appreciate the response and for the information cheers pal

anything cold steel made in Japan I wouldn't worry about at all.

I also don't worry about the made in Taiwan stuff. the subs they use there, do a great job too.

when ya get to the chinese made stuff..most is fine, for what it is, but some hit and miss.

I should also mention some vendors haven't changed their listings to show made in Taiwan instead of made in Japan. you might want to verify they have the made in Japan one still in stock, if that matters to you.

both versions are made well. Japan made uses a vg1 core san mai. Taiwan made uses a vg10 core san mai. so its basically a preference thing of where made and which san mai. both work fine though.

I purchased the Scottish dirk and im very happy with it i also purchased the marauder Bowie and the XL voyager tanto im still waiting on those 2 arriving but I’m certain I’ll love them I must purchase the San mai trail master tomorrow as it’s to late at night to order anything apparently the company hear in the uk don’t allow it they say it’s suspicious behaviour to do so lol but I’ll be ordering it for sure tomorrow I’ll regret it if I don’t I can’t stop watching videos of this particular knife it’s just beautiful mate

Im not going to go off the negativity anymore im just going to come on hear and ask people like yourself for information im greatly appreciative for your help

I used to own the cold steel Kukri plus a long time back with the 0-1 steel it was special ..

I shall do mate I’ll ask first thing in the morning to see what the vendor says im glad you told me it just states hand made in Japan but maybe it’ll be the Taiwan version I don’t think I’ll worry no more as a lot of folk are saying the same as you that there very happy with the Taiwan version

Cool mate im looking forward to receiving them im stoked about it as only one other company in the uk has only the trail master forsale but it’s at. Bit of a higher price where as this other company have both they only cost me £309 for the pair im not to bothered about the price versus how great the knives will be ive only heard good things about them good night pal talk tomorrow
