Can I use paintthinner to remove that shiny black paint from the head

Laquer thinner would probably do it. You would have to score the coating with wet / dry sandpaper, Scotchbrite pad, wire brush or something of the like. A paint and varnish remover would probably be more effective.

Use aircraft stripper. Takes 5 minutes

What Dirtbiker said. And buy a plastic paint scraper, the cheap $1.00 ones that have some flex. The trailhawk looks great once it's naked!
