Here is a Cold Steel Trailmaster thats been completely re built.

1- complete regrind of the blade- thinned out the edge considerably, brought the clip WAY back (sharp clip)
2- thinned out tang/drilled for pins
3- mortised tang construction using Gaboon Ebony for handle material
4- Stainless steel guard/pins/thong hole liner
5- TRUE convex edge
6- 400 grit working hand rubbed finish

The knife lost ALOT of blade weight on the re grind, and feels much more alive.

Any how, it was fun, just took me 40 forevers:rolleyes:

It's...............BEAUTIFUL! I've always known there was a nice looking knife lurking inside all that brass, rubber and steel. You've proven it true. Wonderful job.

Beautiful job! That knife looks absolutely outstanding. If I still owned a trailmaster, I would definitely like to see it look like that:eek: The ebony looks beautiful, and the stainless fittings real bring out both the handle and the newly profiled blade. Way to go.

damn wish mine looked that good..its 15 yrs old and needs help??

whats the charge to do another???:D

Matt,

Looks most excellent!!! Got one around here I wish looked that good!! Give me a call when you get the chance.

RMLamey,

Damn, that is VERY NICE!!! If you get bored sometime in the future, I have a CS Trailmaster Bowie that you can do your magic on!.:).

BTW...I see that you live in Biloxi...I lived in Gulport, MS for a couple years back around '81, and I sure miss that area...Especially the food!!!

Beautiful knife you got there. Does she have a name?

Matt, that is awesome. I have a lot of respect for those who modify their gear. You took a cool production bowie and really went all out with it. Awesome work. How does it cut now?

Matt,

The make-over is art in steel. I'm tremendously pleased with it.

Could have used it today! One of the dogs killed a cat in a HUGE blackberry patch and guess who had to hack his way in to retreive said scoundrel and the evidence?

Aw, I wouldn't have used the TM to do that anyhow - best left to a machete.

My sincere appreciation to you for a really outstanding job.

David

That's really a great looking knife Matt.

I'm surprised there isn't a small industry of aftermarket work on Cold Steel knives.

I'd like to see someone strip down the carbon Bush Ranger, torch draw the spine and tang down (maybe even leave an artsy fire-blue on), and fit a crown stag handle with metal guard. That's a classic shefield-point bowie just waiting to be made. :)

Oh man, oh man wouldn't that be coooool!

Thanks for all the kind words. I will try and elaborate as best i can.

The knife cuts tremendously. Definitely far better than a stock TM. The steel in the TM is a good starting point, but the edges are way too thick. The thinning of the edge, along with a new and true zero ground convex edge makes the blade really perform to its potential.

One very positive thing about the TM is the tang. IT is full thickness and about 3/4" wide all the way to within 1/4" of the butt. If you look at the pic, the pins and thong hole run through the tang.
No wonder these knives have a very good reputation as being strong.

Any how, i will be doing some more later, but not right now. I have way too many back orders to catch up on, and my old customers have been more than patient with my slothfull work habits :D

Hopefully moving into my new shop will help me get out of the "hobby" mentality and into the "business" mindset.

Any more specific questions, dont hesitate to call or email me.

Thanks again, Matt.

As Crocedille Dundee would say...........

" NOW THAT'S A KNIFE"

Beautiful work, mate.............
