Hi all

After using my awesome trailmaster in sk5 awhile,it was getting messed up. So today I was kinda bored and decided to experiment a little bit. I first gave it a vinegar bath. I didnt like the way it came out so this it what I did.

First I got some 600 grit sandpaper and buffed out the stained discolored brass to a nice even semi-dull brass, looks alot better.

Then I wet sanded the entire blade with 600 grit sandpaper.

After that I covered the blade in mustard, then blotted it with cheesecloth and waited 15 min.

Then I wiped it off with a paper towel and did the mustard and blot a second time, waited another 15 min. Heres second coat.

Washed and dried the blade then buffed it with grade 0 steel wool. Starting to look good!

After that I cut six stripes of paper towel and covered them in mustard, and wrapped them around the blade in the design I wanted, then put a heavy book on top to keep it flat and pressed, waited 20 min then washed it again and buffed again with grade 0 steel wool. Heres the end result. The knife looks so good now I kinda want to rehandle it with G10. I just have to re sharpen it and its done. Hope ya like it!!

That came out fantastic! And not for a ton of effort, per se! Great job!

That looks great man! You should do a youtube vid showing the process if you do one again.

Really cool color/pattern there. I've done a patina on mine as well, though defnitely not as interesting as yours. Good job!

pretty cool. I put a tiger stripe pattern on my JK with thin potato slices , left them on over night.

That is soooo cool! I hope you don't mind me copying you because I am going to try it on a knife this weekend. If it turns out as hoped I will post, if not it will be cleaned-off.

Thanks for sharing - I just need to find an alternative for the cheese cloth.

Cheers

Very nice patina, sharp lupo! Mine never turn out that nice...Gotta love that 'antiqued' look on a bowie knife. GrinderMcGee, that laredo bowie is pretty gorgeous too.
