Which is the better knife? I don't think I have to go into for what since these knives are so similar. Which one is made better? Which one works better at various tasks? Which one is more rugged? Which one would you rather use and have?

I have owned a Trailmaster and I thought it was a fine knife. I am getting a Entrek Ranger Bowie in about a week so I want to know what to expect. I hope it is as good or better than my Trailmaster. That Trailmaster was scary sharp! It was as Crocodile Dundee would say "A knife".

Has anybody owned both? If so, what do you think. I am esp interested in info about the Entrek.

That is one vote for Entrek and one for the TM. Any other opinions guys? I really want to know what you think.

Trailmaster is a good knife, but for my use Entrek is better. tm's sanmai is made up of 420j2 sides and aus8 core, and Entrek is solid 440c. Entrek cryo treats their 440c and from my tests, Entrek had a better result. I was cutting up an old cotton work shirt filled with dirt, tm made about 15 cuts before showing signs of dulling, but entrek made about 20 cuts before dulling. I did the test three times with more shirts and the results were the same (each time resharpened the edge with my japanese 1200 grit waterstone at about the same angle). then i put the edge under a microscope 50x magnification and tm was showing microchips and entrek showed smooth flattened surfaces.

i do have to add that i also tested an Timberline Zambezi in the same fashion.. Ha.. it only made 9 cuts. that's a piss poor score for 440c in my opinion.:thumbdn:

The Trailmaster was made in two versions. The standard version was made by Camillus out of a good grade of carbon tool steel. I would prefer that feature in such a large knife over any SS. The handle was very unimpressive to me, however.

I have owned two Trailmasters in Carbon V and Stainless (AUS-6 I think). I recently got an Entrek Ranger. I think the Trailmaster is more useful for most things. The Ranger is more of a pure weapon, with its double-edged blade. I hate the cheapo plastic sheath. I got the Entrek just because it looks so evil. I've never used it. Probably never will. I have their Destroyer as well. It chops OK, but nothing special. Generally, the Entrek line seems to be well made, except for the sheaths. I think the Bison might be more useful than the Ranger. I like the weight and balance of the Trailmaster better the Entrek Ranger.
