Does this thing have ANY practical use in the bush, or is it plain and simply a weapon for the city ? This is one of those maybe, kinda, sorta interesting pieces that I've never pulled the trigger on. Maybe it is hard for me to justify because it looks so friggin tactical.

I do not have the trench hawk, but i have a similar one. I have the Browning Tactical Axe (really a hatchet) and it works pretty well in the bush, actually, very well. It has a thin profile that makes it cut deep, but I never have a problem with it getting stuck. It is practical in the bush, but is very hard on the hand because of the full tang. That is the only complaint I have about it, but If you are a glove-wearing type then you would probably be fine with it. Hope this Helps.

I bought one to see how it did (I make my own axes). Not impressed. Doesn't cut well, heavy, the polypropylene doesn't have good stiffness/flex characteristics, goofy sheath. The spike's ok, but if it goes in deep enough it will act like a barb and stick.

The whole rabbet tang on a tomahawk thing like SOG does as well is jsut a bad idea. When the SOGs first came out, I said, "That's gonna break on the first or second hit." Sure enough, they had to have recalls. They get away with it because of the synthetic handles now, but it's still poor design. You can see the Trench 'Hawk's handle flexing around where the bolts are.

Glad that I followed my intuition, thanks.

Yup. And even with the poly handle the Trench Hawk has had tons of reports of handle failure.

The trench hawk is a total battle axe. Not fit for bush use. Too heavy and big. With some work, it might be useful...Not. Chop off the spike and grid the blade, but then you might as well just buy a different axe. I do love the sheath. For what it is "a ZOMBIE KILLER" it is cool. Like some of Kit Rae stuff is cool to hang on the walk. If you want something to beat on, get one.

Mine sits next to my bed for unwanted, middle-of-the-night encounters. Custom handle would make it much better. One solid hit from either end & it would ruin someones day. Yes, handle flexes. For my intended purpose, it would certainly do the job. Other hawks would do it better. A SOG Fast Axe is in my future.

I got a Cold Steel Rifleman and new Frontier a few years back. I'll be darned of that Rifleman, as butt fugly as it is, isn't a heck of a chopper. It certainly has the mass for it.
