Cold Steel Trench Hawk

I don't really know all that much about axes -- but I like the idea of an overbuilt synthetic handle. I also like how they have the axe head bolted to the handle -- but, not being an axe man, I have no idea if that's actually a good way to build them.

Anyone able to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of having that sort of axe/handle interface?

I prefer wood or stacked leather axe handles. The synthetic ones I've had didn't absorb shock very well and they make your hands hurt after a few minutes.

Interesting demo. I've got the Trench Hawk but haven't had a chance to use it yet. I really like the design and the sheath is a very clever, high tech way of protecting the sharp surfaces. It's great to see that CS is bringing out some very inexpensive sheaths for all their hawks. I'm definitely picking those up when they come out.

I like the power box and propane/LP tank right behind the tree he is throwing the hawk at, LOL. Looks like a good design. I have many CS hawks and a target in the yard. Will definately check this one out.

Can't say as I like the construction method--you can split wood with an eyed 'hawk if you have to, but not with that design. It'll bottom out once it hits the haft. :o

i'll check the vid out, when i get back home to my real internet connection. i'm out in the woods and using my mobile as a modem (super slow).

i have the Trench Hawk and i was really suprised, when i started using it. i had planned on it being more of a fighter/thrower, but wasn't impressed with it in those areas. it's kinda bulky and cumbersome. it will throw, but feels really heavy whether or not it is or if that's just how the design makes it feel i don't know. HOWEVER, when it came time to process some wood, this thing shined :) that extra mass equates into destructive power. not only is it great for choppin up some wood, it would come in handy for forcing entry or other "smash it" tasks. it seems very tough and i wouldn't hesitate to use it for opening up ANYTHING i wanted inside of. anybody thinking it's going to be a zombie slayer is probably better off with a short sword, but as an AXE, it works great :)

Not the best design in my opinion.
A bit too heavy to simply use as a thrower. Head to handle connection is far from ideal for wood splitting.
I would rather get a different hawk or a better axe.
