Hi, this is my first post and I wanted to know about the Cold Steel Triple Action folders. They seem interesting, but I've found that on average, the quality of Cold Steel products vary fairly wildly, even within the same price category. Can anybody give me an opinion? (Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum, after many moons of lurking, I've found threads of this type in both Reviews and Blade Discussion.) Thanks!

I bought one of these once. It was my EDC for a little while. It looked snazy, came razor sharp, fun to play with, it seemed great.
I had the plain edge tanto. One thing I noticed was that it dulled in areas where the blade had accidentally met the guard.
A bigger problem was that the blade eventually cut through the screw that held the guard to the handle! I opened it up to show my friend who had just came back from the airforce, and on the first flick the guard flies accross the living room. W/o it, the knife is useless as it can not lock in place.
Before it became broken, the thing seemed great. I haven't tried to get them to fix it.

Now they are made of AUS-10a. I don't know if they always were, but it sounds impressive. Maybe I just got a sour one.

KC, both your problems sound like what I heard -- they didn't make the rest of the knife tough enough to stand up to the AUS 10 blade! It will fall apart like a cheap balisong with weak pivots if it's used hard.

Nice-looking knife, otherwise.

Knife saber, welcome to Bladeforums! :D

You're right about CS product quality varying, from some of the classic best to total trash. If they made them themselves there would be no excuse for it, but hunting around, you can find the good stuff.

Thanks for the welcome - I've been lurking for years, but never really had anything to post about. Thanks for the responses, as well - Knifeclerk's response is enough to turn me off to the knife. Oh well, back to the catalogs for me, I guess.
