I was wondering if anyone had any of these weirdo knives. You know which one i'm talking about right? the ss handled one , two blade choices; spear point or tanto. Well anyway i was wondering what anyone thinks about it or if anyone has "handled it"? what does if feel like? is it easy to open/close?

what do you guys think of Lynn Thompsons' attitude towards other companies like busse for instance. Most important: What are your views on his outrageous claims (i.e. AUS10 is better than ats34/55, 440v, and 154 cm)?

He may be making all kind of statements - but the test that was held between the carbon V trail master and the Busse #9 proved the trail master is a real contender and the may be the best knife for the money any one can buy.

The article can be read at:

And the sad results are yet another knife to the "must have" list.

I handled them briefly and found them weird. Maybe with practice . . . .

Lets tread lightly on the "attitudes" subject, lest this turn into a "son of a mad dog" thread.

He's one of a number of people who believe they make the Best in the World, and can be a wee bit annoying in the way they say it. I've had a brief private argument with Lynn Thompson over religion, that was quite civil, but I gather that he can get really excited over knives, as can other people.

Be nice.

I have handled one and tried to flip it around like a butterfly knife then the guy told me that it wasnt able to stand that kind of abuse so I just left it at that and never even looked at that knife again....

But other than being not built strong I wouldnt buy it......

Oh those things. I handled one at a pawn shop. Those things make asian janitorial apparatuses look normal... them triple action knives are so WEIRD. You got a blade inside the stainless steel handle, but another handle piece attached to the back of the first one that folds over and completely covers the blade up, except for a little stud in the middle that sticks out. You push the stud and it slides one of the handle pieces away, then you rotate the blade out with the stud, and finally push the handle piece back down to lock it. I found it to be excessively complex and not cool enough to be worth the time it takes to open it. I think this is Cold Steel's way of "beating the system" and getting something like butterfly knives into California (I think that's where they get the knives sent to from their production in Japan). Of course it isn't a butterfly knife and is way too clumsy. Get it if you want something really weird, but it's not that cool.

Well I can tell you how they sell.

At the Shot Show last year I ordered on 2 of each. Remember I was a distributor at the time and my orders are sometimes $25,000 yet I only ordered 2 of each model, which totaled 4 knives. I sold the last one 2 weeks a ago.

I only handled a couple at a gun show, and to me they felt flimsy. Odd, because most CS knives are very solid. The Triple Action folders felt like there was considerable play in the joints, and when locked open, the blades still exhibited play (at least the samples I played with). They seemed too clunky to operate, too.

Thanks for the help guys. I think...know that i am going to wait until BM comes out with their balisong and buy that instead. Besides, i like titanium handles way better than aluminum, and for 20 more bucks it sounds like a good deal.

thanks again.

say chang...whats with the oddish names man? cheeto bandito?

Chefget, I'm with you, man! Isn't that sad though? lol

Hmm, the knife does have one inherent benifit though..according to CS's advertisement in BLADE Magazine, the Triple Action knife incorporates the "strongest lock in the world". ROFLMAO!!! Anyone else catch that and almost loose their cookies?

James Keating started a thread recently on his new Riddle of Steel forum about the triple-action: http://www.knifeforums.com/ubb/Forum52/HTML/000076.html Summary according to Cougar: Keating likes it and he's wondering why nobody else seems to.

A discussion of Lynn Thompson's ethics, advertising, comments on competitors, etc., would be welcome on TGBU.

Hrmm the strange names? I just thought they were cool. Cheeto Bandito is cool. I will start using that....

i thoght they were weird to say the least, bought 4 last year and still had 2 left, the problem is that cold steel themselves did not know how realy to work them untill reacently.
this year at SHOT SHOW i met James Keating and saw him carry one,and asked him what for..? well he deployed it lightning fast and made some good points to it.in a few minutes i saw it in a different light. these knives do deserve more attention and looking into then they got.they are light, good looking, and fast with a strong lock. the major problem is that they are slipery with wet or sweating hands and that might cost you in a severe cut.
still not in my top 5 choises but then again i have far more than 5 knives..and it's rather nice in second look, chek the Keating thread on the knivesforum.
scorpio.

I handled one at the last local gun show. It seems to be one way of getting a true double-edged blade in a folder that's clearly not a bali-song. And since there's a thumbstud, it seems kosher by all Calif. rules.

The big problem is the latch stiffness where the two grip halves join up. It's not necessary for safety, especially if you made a Kydex sheath similar to what I did for my Sifu: http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum22/HTML/000306.html

That way you could dremel the entire latch away and get more of a "swing action" going.

Hmmm...ya know, a 6" version would be really nice!

Timmy - Other than being a folder that totally encloses it's blade, the TAF is nothing like a bali song. Can't turn it into one.

Fred Perrin and JAK both LOVE this knife, so it can't be all bad. Once you learn how, the "Jacob's Ladder" type folder is lightning fast, and very formidable.

Personally, I found the action too stiff, the handle to be too slick and without a guard or finger well, and the price is way high.
