I just ordered and received a 5-inch Cold Stee Twistmaster---the Americanized version of the French Opinel---I really like it, and it seems to be a good cutter and it's a tanto point, my personal preference. To all the other owners out there, what do you think of yours?

i just got one off ebay few weeks back 5" leaf style blade of carbon V. I think it would make a great camper knife. It seems to hold a good sharp edge

I received one in a trade, as value filler, and it seems to be a pretty good knife, for the value placed on it. Mine is the 5" tanto in Carbon V, and the edge is incredibly sharp. It is close to convincing me that stainless isn't all it's cracked up to be, and I should be looking to replace all my ultra-modern stainless knives with good ol' fashioned carbon steel. Well, maybe not.

Anyway, it's a great knife to have laying around for when the need arises. I've used it to chop a small sapling for a walking stick, and I've used it around the yard to trim weeds (my weed eater broke). I like to keep it in my glove box throughout the week.

The lock seems quite sturdy, and the sheath is good quality (sees duty as a carrier for my Cuda Maxx) and it feels good in the hand.

I basicly got it for free, so I thinks it's a great deal. I wouldn't see a problem paying the asking price for them, either.

My original TwistMasters are the best cutting tools I own or have ever handled, bar none. The steel combined with the heat treat combined with the blade grind combined with the edge geometry are awesome. The only reason I don't carry one all the time is that one-handed folders are more convenient.

The two TwistMasters I have from the second incarnation (when they did the spear point and the exaggerated clip point) are great knives, but not in the same league. I don't know if it's a different steel or a different heat treatment, but they won't sharpen as easily, get as sharp, or hold an edge as well as the originals.

Have the five inch bowie and drop point. Can't beat those carbon V blades. The original CS logo sheaths that came with them are highly durable for such a knife. These things are huge! Haven't used them "extremely hard" over these many years but they have handled every chore and task with ease. For the price, a Special Projects closeout back in the day, a two fer, hella bang for the buck!

I've had a 4" Twistmaster for close to 15 years and I've never had a problem with it. I've used it for whittling, pruning trees and shrubs, skinning game, you name it... it holds it's edge forever and sharpens easily when it does begin to dull.
