Cold Steel Urban Pal?

Surfing through Youtube videos and I caught a brief look at somebody’s EDC collection. Among the items was a Cold Steel Urban Pal . What was notable was that it did not have a plastic handle (or whatever they are calling their handle stuff); handle was same apparent shape, but just bare steel. Also, it had a square pocket sheath – looked to be leather - with the Cold Steel name on it. Tried finding the video later, but could not.

Anyone know if this is this a version of the Urban Pal that is no longer being made? Or did he just take the handle material off and make a new sheath? Or………..?

Yes they made them in just plain steel ,It's a early version.
I picked this one up at a gun show last month.

The later one with the Kydex sheath is what I have. That Secure- Ex sheath is terrible and I lost my first Urban Pal. The sheath was fine unless you held something tight against your chest (if worn as a neck knife) like groceries or laundry. I was carrying out laundry and the basket pressed on the knife and popped it loose. I never found it. I bought another one for $11 and the sheath held tighter. I wear the Urban Pal as a neck knife when I'm out bicycling, but I like the one shown here much better. That sheath makes sense. Others lost their knives to that lousy sheath.

You might have seen it on one of my videos. I had 2 of them that came with black and brown leather wallet sheaths. I sold one to a member here who did an unboxing video ofit. My YouTube link is in my sig line below.

I recently found the other one that been lost for a year. Here's a pic.

get a safekeeper 2 or a safemaker 1 if you want a push knife on the cheap. If you can, find a safekeeper 1. it took me like 10 years to find mines but its well worth it. if you want something the urban pal size which works, get a little pocket knife, I suggest a spyderco ladybug 3 in SS or even the Bug. The bug actually works wonders for most every day chores even though its so small. I would not recommend an urban pal to anyone.

The first one I ever saw was a buddies in the early 80s, it took me 15 years to find rhis one:

I just got another one this year with a small black formed back pocket sheath and a small black leather blade cover, these are beefy little knives, IIRC the blade 1/4" hollow chisel grind on it.

I rarely even see 'em on the secondary market anymore.

I love the older cold steel knives. This pic is of my cold steel defender and the urban pal (both discontinued versions). I would love to someday get my hands on an urban shiv, although they all seem to elude me at the moment. The only videos I have seen of the urban pal with the wallet sheath is a Charlie Mike video or mine. My channel is Urbansurvivalist

I had 2 Urban Shivs but put one up for a give away on www.threepercenter.org for the first member to get some III% ink done. My remaining knife is at Richard J's place for re-profiling and sharpening.
