What's big, green, overpowering and in your face?

No, it's not the Incredible Hulk. It's the Lynn Thompson Green OD Vaquero serrated Grande, or what used to be a Grande. It's got green FRN Griv-Ex scales with Thompson's name ostentatiously scrawled across the DLC serrated CTS-XHP stainless steel blade. And, though there were only 2,000 of them made, these knives seem freely available.

Some people don't like them because of the serrated blades. I have several of the old Grande knives that were made before the Tri-Ad locks and love them. But I rarely use them. They have 6-inch blades and still disappear in my pants pocket.

So what are your views on this knife? Your likes and dislikes? Does the XHP give this additional life or do the serrations chip as the AUS8A blades do? I've thought about getting one, but I already have more serrated CS knives than I'll use. But again, what are your thoughts?

I think it's a near ideal, concealable, SD knife for joggers, hikers, and cyclists.

I have mine riding over the shoulder on a Ti ball chain in a dericdesmond kydex pancake, under my tee.

Has resisted my sweat in humid conditions since last summer.

I would only use it on nasty four or two legged varmints, so the serrations aren't a bother, they're a huge benefit for my worst case scenario usage. I don't think it's wise to use an SD knife for general cutting tasks. I prefer mine factory sharp with a pristine unused edge.

Hope it never gets to that, but I'm 100% confident that-- between Andrew's TriAD, Lynn's blade and handle design, plus the reach the huge blade affords and it's very pointy point, and material gathering recurve section-- I'll have all the bases covered.

Stab, poke, slice, slice thru thick outer garments...the LTVG can handle it. Plus I'll wager just the deployment alone of the blade alone with the intimidating figure it cuts could possibly deter a lot of confrontations dead in their tracks!

If I were going to carry one for self defense(I don't carry any knife for defense) I'd just go the cheaper route and get the plain version without the billboarding. If it's specifically a self defense knife, the odds of you ever using it are about 100000 to 1, so there's no real advantage of XHP over AUS-8, it's not like you're gonna be dulling it. And if that 100000:1 shot ever DOES happen, you'll likely have to surrender the knife to the cops anyways so may as well carry the cheaper model in case it never makes it's way back to you. And if it's not specifically a self defense knife, other designs would probably be better choices for carry than a 5.5 inch serrated recurve like the Vaquero unless you spend an inordinate amount of time cutting rope and such.
