Hey fellows!
I saw those knives on the net and i was wondering about the quality. And what kind of use are they recommended?
Thx guys

The quality is fine, and the use is for cutting with.:D.

The Vaquero Grande is an impressive monster, and would make a good "fighting-folder", due to it's 6 inch fully serrated curved blade.

I will second what Glockman99 stated. I have the El Vaquero, this is the 5 inch version. The quality level is very good, as well as performance. Talk about an excellant slicer!! They also carry well considering the lineups inherant size. Don't forget there are 6, 5, 4, and 3 inch models to choose from. Any of these will definitely work well to deter a criminal, if need be, due to their somewhat ominous appearance.

Will third that, I have the VG (the BIG one;) ) and the quality is pretty good. I prefer g-10 over zytel handles, and I wish it came with a plane edge (Cold steel listening) but it is a great knife. I would not rule out looking at the Cold Steel Voyager series (esp. the XL versions)

I have two CS Voyagers, 4", one clip, one tanto, both plain edge, which have served me well for quite a few years now. Neither exhibits any sign of wobble, the AUS-8 steel takes a great edge, holds it more than acceptably well IMHO, and is easy to sharpen. They're flat, easy to carry discreetly, and open as easy as a well broken in Zippo. The locks are very strong and have never failed me (but then, I don't go around whacking the spine on things). Also highly corrosion resistant. The Zytel grips are totally functional though maybe not pretty, and they don't stick to your skin under extreme conditions (like right now, 0 F. out here in northern Alberta). These are good, tough, affordable users. (Now, if CS would only offer them in Carbon V...)

I have the 3, 4 and 6 inchers. I agree with the foregoing comments and would like to add that the 3 incher feels like a lot more knife than its modest size would suggest. That is important in LA where we are not supposed to openly carry blades of 3 or more inches (mine actually measures about 2.9).

DWK: Los Angles has a city ordinance that says you can not carry a larger knife? That sucks. To my knowledge state law dosen't restrict folder size.

I have avoided the Vaquero's due to their serrations. However I do have a 4 inch tanto Voyager and the 5 inch plain edge clip point. The clip point has a grip shaped much like that of the Vaquero line.

I believe these are fine knives. I have been using Cold Steel knives since there was mud.

I've got the El Lobo-the 3 inch version in plain-edge. Great slicer due to the flat ground blade. It will go thru a hanging piece of paper like it wasn't even there! Cold Steel makes great affordable, tough folders. Go for it, you will not be dissappointed!

Centurian,

You are correct that there is no limit on folder size under CA state law. However, both the City and County of LA have parallel statutes containing the <3" rule for folders and fixed blades. There are exceptions for certain legitimate vocational/recreational uses. There's also a debate over whether the statute applies to concealed carry of folders.

Several other cities/counties have blade length limits so it's worth checking if you are in a heavily populated area.
