Howdy!

Which would you pick? This will be my first CS or spydie. So my questions are,

Aus 8 or 8cr? Which do you prefer of the two manufacturers?

Which feels smaller in pocket?

I plan on getting a recon 1 latter so should I just get the spydie? (You know, to add variety.)

How thick is the liner lock on the spydie?

That pretty much sums up my questions. OH I love pictures.

Thanks guys,
Chris.

Get the Spydie, then get the Recon. Skip the Voyager till later. And yes, I prefer Spydercos 8Cr13MoV over Cold Steels AUS8A.
You won't regret it, I sure didn't

The Resilience is too big for my pockets, i'm 5 7" and wear cargo shorts, I would take it down a notch and get the Tenacious

Cold Steel Voyager. The Resilience is good, but the Voyager is better.

And wait until they bring out the Recon 1 in XHP next year. It'll probably be two to three times the price of the AUS8 version, but it'll be worth it.

Are you getting Voyager L or XL?
The Resilience is no slouch, but Tri-ad Lock is supposedly stronger. Voyager looks more 'rugged' and 'combat like', even the 4" L size.
There was a YT video comparing Military & Voyager 4" which might be useful.

I like hole opening method, and as a company, Spyderco has better reputation. I'd say Resilience.

I have them (1 Voyager XL Tanto & 2 Resilience). EDC are Resilience, Endura and Bradley.

I'm getting the large. Or spyderco....

Get the Voyager. Cold Steel's AUS8 is no joke. Plus the Triad lock is plenty strong. Get the clip point and you get a 4 inch full flat grind blade.

Based on your comments, go with the Cold Steel.

Spyderco builds knives designed more for Go then for Show.

Well hang on there buddy,

I'm positive if you put a spyderco against a cold steel in a torture test the cold steel will do just as well if not better. I'm not trying to start a war but that's just my 2¢

Most knives are designed primarily for cutting things, not "torture tests". When you are slicing something, the lock is the least important feature on the knife. Now, if you want to sit and break cinder blocks by spine whacking them because you can, that is a whole other thing, nothing to do with cutting at all.
Yes, Andrew Demko improved one of the best lock designs in existence, but cutting and locking are different. Need proof look no further than a Victorinox, GEC, Canal Street Cutlery, Case, Shrade, etc.

Well Rev has covered it fairly well.

Sal builds knives that are designed to function well as cutting tools. ;)

Lynn builds knives that are designed to sell well and make him money;

...well, he really doesn't make 'em, but be sure makes money on every one sold.

Just one long time knife user's opinion.

I get it. Knives are for cutting. BUT.... I like overbuilt knives. Which I think the triad lock is. Sure you don't need it. But it's nice to now I can use my knife as monkey bars as well.

The Voyager is a relatively thin full flat ground AU8 blade that comes hair shaving sharp from the factory.

The Spyderco is a relatively thin full flat ground 8Cr13MoV blade that comes hair shaving sharp from the factory.

If your sharpening skills are up to snuff you can keep either knife razor sharp.

From a cutting perspective there isn't any real difference, what it comes down to is personal preference and while I like Spyderco knives I do find the Voyager to be a better fit for my hands.

If you know you're going to get a Recon 1 later, then get the Spyderco. Doing so will give you exposure to two different manufacturers, two different designs and two different steels. From there, you can make your own decisions on what you like better.

I have four Cold Steel folders, and I love everyone of them with the Recon 1 being my favorite. I think Cold Steel does a great job with AUS8A. But again, get both, use them, decide for yourself and enjoy the journey.

I own both. I much prefer the Voyager and the triad lock. I assume you are going for the 4" large version for EDC. More blade style choices too I guess. Or perhaps get the Tenacious instead....then a Recon 1? 2 diff blade sizes then.
