Cold Steel Voyager Tanto ?

Hello everyone, this is my first post here. I just bought a XL Cold Steel Voyager Tanto Plain edge (5") from a buddy of mine new in the box for $45. I really know nothing about knives except that this one is a big folder, is still very tight, and VERY sharp. It does not say what kind of steel is used in this knife. Does anyone here know what Cold Steel uses in this knife ? Also any general opinions are very much welcome. BTW I may not know much about knives but I do know a lot about handguns.

Welcome to the forums!!!! And congratulations on your purchase too- you got a good deal. The Cold Steel voyagers use Aus-8 stainless steel in them. In fact, most of Cold Steel's stainless products are made from this steel. It is a good steel, being quite tough. It won't hold an edge like the CMP steels or like talonite or like bg-42 or like a bunch of the modern super steels, but for the money it really is a good steel. Anyone wanting to argue can pick up one of my granny's MAC brand kitchen knives and have at a tomato: AUS-8 can cut just fine thank-you!

The 5" blade is the largest size that they sell: It is big eh! Cold Steel recently made some changes to their voyager line. If the clip on your blade is plastic, you have an older model.

Enjoy your folder! There are lots of instructions on the forums about sharpening tanto blades. Use the search function to search old posts about this or any other topic you'd like to learn about.

It has a metal clip on it. A very hard to clip on metal clip at that.
