I want to get a Cold Steel Voyager large in plain clip point, but have some questions.
Does the current production (2009 version) CS Voyager have the Tri-Ad lock?
I know the 2010 version that does for sure got canceled til 2011, but at a few online stores it mentions the Tri-Ad lock in the knife description.
I thought the tri-ad was new on the voyager series for 2010. Any thoughts?

Technically, there are no current Voyagers. The most recent models are the 2009, but they're not in production.

To answer your question, no they do not have the Tri-Ad lock. You'll have to wait until the 2011s come out to get your hands on a Voyager with the Tri-Ad lock.

Thanks, I'll just get a 2009 version to tide me over I suppose :D
BTW, how does the 2009 perform? I know there's a Nutnfancy vid, but I'd rather hear the opinion of someone who isn't the Billy Mays of knife reviews.

Any personal experience with the large clip point voyager?

I'm pretty happy with it. Comfortable and secure grip (due to the pattern in the FRN). My knife has no blade play. Light. The knife was sharp out of the box.

At the price there are other knives I prefer, but I like having a few clip points in the collection.

I've got a plain edge clip point Voyager (4" blade) and like it quite a lot. It's light, strong and sharp.

Smoky Mountain Knife Works is closing out Voyagers right now. Their prices are unbeatable. Get 'em while you can.

I had a large clip point voyager for a while, and I kept coming back to it as my reference folder. I have a lot of other folders that have more chi-chi features, but the Voyager sets a standard that is pretty hard to beat. By that I mean you would have had to introduce some pretty big improvements in terms of blade steel and/or locking mechanism to really turn my head.

Fortunately the Tri-Ad lock is becoming somewhat standard on new Cold Steel offerings, so consider my head turned. I too am eagerly awaiting the new 2011 Voyagers. I have a feeling that they are going to kick everything else out of my pocket when they finally arrive.

On a side note: I gave that same large clip point Voyager to a friend of mine in the USMC, and he's become a Cold Steel convert. He told me flat out that he would bet his life on that knife.

I've got to agree. The large Cold Steel Voyager is a whole lot of knife in a light, inexpensive package. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I just ordered a clip point XL, just because there are some discounted prices out there. What I'm really looking forward too, though, is the 2011 flavor with the Tri-Ad.
