Cold Steel vs. Busse

All right, now. Cold Steel makes a bowie blade they coin the Trail Master. They claim that it cannot be beat and call it the best in the world. In an older Special Projects catolog, they challanged Busse's Battle Mistress to a duel. The tests were performed, and I contacted both companies for results. I cannot get a straight answer from either, yet BOTH claim victory without naming names. Busse posted victorious test results against an unnamed competitor on the web and Cold Steel STILL claims to have the best bowie blade in the world. They claim it will out perform by a wide margin any factory made knife and 99% of hand forged blades. Who is lying here? Does anybody know the bonified results of these tests? Did anybody do their own tests on these blades?

Max, CS does not even have a working warrenty on thier blades, if you try to duplicate what they do to illustrate the quality of their knives you void the warrenty. They cannot challenge Busse in terms of durability, nor can anyone else until they first have the same warrenty policy.

That being said I had a Trailmaster and returned it to CS in two pieces. My BM is still in one piece. The Trailmaster will not chop or cut as well as the Busse, it will rust faster, break under less strain, chip easier and lot hold an edge as well as the Busse. The handle is also not as ergonomic and not nearly as secure as the old Busse grips, it cannot begin to compare to the new ones. The Trailmaster does have better point penetration though as the tip is much thinner. The BC Kydex sheaths are also much more durable and functional than CS's current rigs, I don't have any of the BC leather sheaths so I can't comment on them.

Thanx for the info.

I used to depend on my Carbon V trailmaster as my main tripping knife for the last few years. It's a great knife, although the sheath was garbage and gad to be replaced, the tendency to rust and pit was a real problem and the Kraton handle isn't great for heavy chopping. Its balance is fabulous and it remains a better fighter than the Battlemistress. But in every other respect the Busse is much superior. That's not to say the CS isn't a great knife. It is. But the Busse is incredible and seems to far exceed the CS, so far, in every respect except perhaps speed and balance. Tip penetration is a function of the blade shapes and another illustration of the CS excelling as a fighter design.
The review in the To The Point emagazine was, IMHO, top notch and accords with my unscientific observations.
