Cold Steel War Hawk Handle Durability?

How durable is the handle? Should I shorten it by cutting it down? I already have a Pipe Hawk version with a wooden handle, I just like the hammer end shaped like that because it is a non-functional Pipe Hawk. I ain't no smoker.

I was thinking of cutting the handle so that it won't be brittle like stainless steel is brittle if it is long, and like the carbon steel and stainless steel analogy but for wood. Polypropelene vs Wood handle and all that.

Can you let me know of the thermoplastic durability?

Never broken one, I think it's more likely to break if your using it for throwing. I got a spare one just incase. As CS sell spares I imagine they break!

Polypropylene doesn't get brittle with length. The main reason the material breaks is failure to get a good molding, any air pockets and honeycombing will make a spot that has far less structural integrity. Cutting the handle shorter won't really change much on the chance of breakage I think.

If you throw, then there will be a lot of force that will shock down the handle. Polypropylene is a "whippy" material instead of rigid, so that could be an issue.

It's a durable material, but all axe handles are expected to be replaced eventually. Polymer won't rot or splinter, but when it goes it tends to break down catastrophically, no repair possible. It would be a major pain to make that handle in wood, so ordering a spare would be sensible.

A spare makes a cheap baton for an impact weapon. "There's nothing like a nice piece of polypropylene."
