war head form col steel curious about strengths and.......
Overall: 14"
Thick: 4mm
Weight: 10.9 oz.
Steel: 1055 Carbon
Blade: 8 1/2"
........weaknesses of it. Just trying to get an idea if this one, also included a exceptable price.
Asking myself if it works as spears ?

Thanks for the info.

What do you want to use it for?

A strength is that the 1055 should be quite tough.

Weaknesses, Depending one where you live and what you want to use it for, double edge may not be best. Edge holding may not be stellar; although it should be decent. It looks like it would make a good spear head, but not a very good knife for woodcraft and such.

Thank you for your information which was more than I expected,
I just guess that there are not many people who experienced this knife. Thanks very much again.
I'll try to buy when it is available as backup.

Has it ever even been reliesed and sold? I plan on getting the GI Tanto and the Shanghi one for what reason I do not know but they should be fun to experament with.

I had one, it was sort of an interesting knife. They say you can throw it, which I did many times. Finally snapped right at the handle. It was fun while it lasted though.

I had one and threw it many times. It also finally snapped at the handle. Good for a spear and a fighting pick but not for a throwing knife. Hard to find sheaths for them.

Yeah. I have one of those in the older original one. Pretty neat knives. I think I bought like five at one time.

I just got one of the new production ones and like it. It is sharper than I expected and cuts quite well. The sheath is pretty crappy, but that is sadly rather common these days. It is very light and fast with a neutral balance. A lot of knife for the money.

I think they are my GI Tanto was. I thought they would have been made in Taiwan but they are not.

Edit: The blade did come nice and sharp but we shall see how well it does. I have never had a knife made out of this steel before.

If I recall correctly the old ones were 1095 made in the USA by Camillus. I did break one of the old ones though but it was still usable afterwards. The old ones had two slots on each side to tie it to a handle for making spears or stuff like that. What are the new ones made out of?

Here is one of my two old original ones.

Hmmm...

I really haven't been impressed with Chinese made knives.

(Although I do want to distinguish Chinese made from Taiwanese made, I think there are a lot of excellent Taiwanese made knives.)

Per the above they are supposed to be 1055 this time. Looks like only one lashing lug too - I wonder how durable they really are?!? Would be easy to customize with slabs of your favorite material...

On that GI Tanto is it chisel ground, I was thinking about buying one for a beater for around the yard and maybe one in car as a spare but I really hate chisel ground knives.

I must have missed the words "the same material" in my post somehow. LOL
To be honest I could not tell you what kind of grind it has but I know it is made of 1055 and it seems sharp. How could I tell if it was a chisle grind? It would make a great beater knife though and that is what I got it for.
