Cold Steel buts out a knife training video called Warriors Edge they claim that Filipino tactics are used. I was wondering what everyones thoughts on this were

Have you seen the video yet? I haven't, only read L. Thompson's articles. I thought it was strange that he put down the kerambit and then decided to make his own version.

I have the Warriors Edge video set. Lynn shows the 12 angles and such. This is a snippet of Dan Inosanto saying how Lynn has trained with him.I am not expert on FMA,so I don't know how much is Filipino and how much is not. There is alot wide expansive movements with a large knife. Not too much tight in movements. Some of the moves almost look like fencing.Just my take on the videos.

He emphasizes more on long-range style fighting rather than close-range fighting.

I believe Mr. Thompson called it, "Cut and Don't get Cut." Or, something like that.

I would prefer long range(less chance of me getting hurt) but most knife attacks are up close and personnel.

Thompson trained with Felix Valencia whom was once employed by Cold Steel. That is his claim to Filipino fighting. The DVD is not worth much (I got it free when I bought a knife) but Felix says that Thompson can fight even though he is a bit of a dick.

Yeah, between training with Mr. Baliki & Mr. Valencia, and many others, Lynn Thompson has gained quite abit of skill and knowledge no doubt. He seems to move well in the video set.

Lynn has Guro Ron Balicki in his table...i suspect Guro Balicki does a lot of the Kali side of it, now. Ron Balicki was also under late Punong Guro Edgar Sulite, Guro I, and Bahala Na.

the good thing about the DVD's...all these guys can apply what they show on the DVD's. so the fighting style is no doubt effective. you just have to see if it's something that you can adapt to or if it's to your liking.
