My usual cutlery shop dealer was offering me the “More proof” Cold Steel DVD and I was very impressed by the different knife experiments . I didn’t know Cold Steel’s 6” bladed knives and it seems to be the relevant solution to have a powerful cutting tool but with a discreet concealable size.

So, before order a X2 Voyager, I would like to have your opinion about this knife (what do you think of the Cold Steel particular serrations ?).

I can’t handle one before buying it : have you some pictures ?

Thank in advance !
:D

I would suggest no serrations.

I have handled the voyager series knives and they are worth the money one pays for them.

I had the extra large voyager and it was a good product. Others are not enamored with CS itself and the owners attitude and marketing but that doesn't change the fact they make certain quality products for the monies spent.

I have both a (PE) X2 Voyager and a Vaquero Grande...(They are the SAME knife, but with very different blades.). "For the money", they are very good folders, but aren't very "lefty-friendly". The Cold Steel serrations aren't bad (not as good as Spyderco or Benchmade, 'tho, as the high-points of the serrations are pretty thin and prone to breakage).

Well, firstly I would be very leery of the "More Proof" DVD or any in-house testing from CS. CS's marketing tends to be overly aggressive and deceptive, and your warranty is void if you attempt to replicate their tests.

The Voyager X2 is a good knife for the money, as there aren't too many magefolders out there. It will not out-cut a Benchmade, of course, and it has a backlock, and the ergonomics are non-existent IMO.

Glockman is right about the serrations - the little one will break if you look hard at them (maybe a bit of hyperbole, but they broke on manila rope).

x2 voyager is one of my fave knives. Good steel, carries well, and very good for the price. I wouldn't compare it to spyderco or benchmade, but it's good for the price.

I like it alot. The factory edge is razor sharp. If you plan on carrying it, though, you might want the 5 inch extra-large size, rather than the 6 inch x2. I don't have the 5 incher, but I imagine it should be a reasonable carry size, as the 6 incher is just a bit too large for comfortable carry in my opinion.

Mine sits next to my locked gun box, just in case a home defense situation arises, and I don't have time to unlock and load the gun. (The law in NJ requires that guns be stored locked and unloaded if there are small children in the house.)

I keep a second one in the closet behind the front door to my house. Sometimes I get strangers knocking on my door at very late hours (after 11pm) - usually beggers. If I feel compelled to answer the door, I slip the X2 into my pocket first, just in case.

Thank you very much for your advices. My wish is to have a knife I can leave in a drawer. It must be ready to use for SD (like Cds1) or eventually in the fields when hiking (it is why I would like to have a concealable folder which doesn’t scare people).

Do you really think the serrations are unnecessary for these purposes ?

Have a nice day !
;)

The X2 should do fine for these purposes.

I'm not sure what purpose you think you might need the serrations for. My X2 is the plain edge version. I haven't used it for cutting much other than cardboard. The big, heavy, razor sharp blade cuts real easy without any serrations.

I would imagine that serrations would probably be an advantage for tasks like cutting branches, where you have to "saw" through something. On the other hand, everyone will tell you that they are harder to sharpen.
