Does anyone have one of these behemoths?

The Ti-Lite and its steep grind did not suit my needs so I am looking into one of these Voyagers for my EDC. I like the 6 in. length and Cold Steel, to me, is a good knife maker. The fit and finish for my Ti-Lite was better than my Harpy and Centofante 4. The VG-1 steel is comparable to Spyderco's VG-10 right?

Does anyone have another suggestion for a large-folding EDC, or maybe a comparable, smaller alternative (i.e. Endura, AK-47, etc.)?

I have a couple of X2s and they're very solid. Nice fit and finish, easy to sharpen (my plain edge model in AUS-8 at least), and they lock up really nice. I don't use my serrated model much, with it's thin hollow grind and tiny serrations, but the plain edge model sees a bit of use now and again. They are huge and may not be real comfy to edc, but that's up to you. If you want to stick with Cold Steel, I'd go for the Large (4") Voyager (in whichever blade style you like). Tey're good sized too, but easier to pocket. THe new American Lawman looks cool too. http://www.1sks.com/store/cold-steel-58AL-american-lawman.html.

I have a 4" blade CS Voyager in VG-1 and so far it has been very good. I actually prefer it to my Spyderco Endura in VG-10. Seems to be just a bit better than the older ones in AUS 8, which were good. A 6" blade is a monster for a folder, though.

I carry either the 5" or 6" Clip Point Voyager as my EDC. I do not find that they are cumbersome either in the pocket or in the hand. I am over 6' and have large hands though, so they might not be the best fit for some.

I personally prefer the serrated to the plain edge as an EDC.

Yeah, I have the same problem as DngrRuss1. I need something with a lot of bulk to it or the knife feels wrong in my hand and I cannot get the same cutting effect. Size is not an issue it is an imperative if you get what I mean. Something like the X2 or maybe the Spyderco Chinook.

If only the thing came in a combo edge. Thanks for the help.

I've got a Cold Steel Voyager X2. I use it for taking walks with my wife & son in my neighborhood. People down the street have a couple of pit bulls that they like to let run loose sometimes.... I really like it, it fits down in my pocket pretty good when it's clipped to the side.

I've always like the X2, but could never justify getting one because it never seemed as practical as the other knives I could get. I think it's a solid knife and although, most will tell you that they prefer VG-10 (it's one of my personal favorite folder steels), I'm sure VG-1 will get the job done without any problems. I personally would pick a knife based on the model/design 1st over the steel (unless it's a really crappy steel, but usually those designs suck anyway).

Other large folders that people on these forums tend to like:
Benchmade Rukus, Skirmish, Dejavoo
Spyderco Military, Endura/Endura Wave, Police

Nothing that I can think of that's as large as the X2, though. If that's the design you like, I say get it.

Are there internal liners to add strength to the handle? The CS website doesn't say.

No, the Voyagers just use the zytel. It keeps them light. They seem to be fairy rugged, though. I've been using them for years with no problems, but I don't baton live oak with them or anything that hard use.

I've got an AUS 8 model that I've used for a yard knife for a few years now. I just clip it to my pants whenever I pull out the mower. Works great for taking care of large weeds around the house, and I've always found AUS 8 to take a great edge.

The X2 is a keeper,Very solid and smooth opening.I also have the 6" Ti-Lite to match. Both knives are my favorite CS knives.

I just got mine and I would have to agree that this is one great knife. I just need a belt sheath so I do not accidently de-man myself with this crazy sharp blade.

I think they are great. There isn't anything out there that size for
that price. I had a Gunsite Voyager and it was a great knife for the
price. I plan on buying another shortly. The X2 is a little to big for me to
carry legally. I think Cold Steel has some really great knives for the money.
I have an AK-47 that I bought at a pawnshop for $9.95 and it's a great
knife also(the aluminum version). It waves open better than anthing I've seen
and seems to hold an edge.
For a 4in. folder I would go with a Recon 1. I've had a Japan made(zytel) version since 2001 and it's been great. The new ones are made in Taiwan
but are even better in my opinion(they have the G-10 handles). I have owned
Striders, Benchmades, Spydercos, Kershaws and other quality knives and I
still believe CS makes some of the best knives for the money...

Cold Steel doesn't make knives. It contracts to various companies to manufacture them. Many people on the forum have complained about their customer service, so buying from them always involves some risk.
