Could someone please tell me why cold steel isn't trusted as a knife maker they use decent steels make good products that they have proven to be tough and have a mediocre warranty with good customer service!!! So why all the bull about them not being good? Whats the problem?

Do a google search on bladesforums.com and cold steel. There's plenty of info there for you to look through. Everyone is welcome to their own opinions. If you like them, that's perfectly fine. If you want to know why others don't, do the search.

NOOOOOOOO! That dead horse is already an unrecognizable mound because it has been beaten so much.

Generally it's the owner of the company people dislike rather than the knives.
Any more in depth than that would be beating a badly decomposed horse.

ooooh iso want to touch a match to this can of kersone .....lynn.......thompson.........fat.............arggghhhhh

ooops that was a close call my baser instincts almost won out :D

I always figured it was because Lynn Thompson told the trurh about Mick Strider. Their knives run the gamut from pretty good to pretty poor, it really depends.

This has been done to death. It was discussed as recently as Yesterday.

Some people don't like the marketing. Some don't like that LT called Strider on it's BS. Some don't like the fact that they aren't currently not having knives made in the US. Some claim design theft as an issue and back it up with obvious examples or ridiculous delusions. Some don't like LT's hunting videos. Some don't like the short warranty. I could certainly come up with more.

The fact is that CS sells a very wide variety of bades and other things that range in price and quality. It's best to decide if you like something on it's own merits.

I think they make some good knives. Videos of an portly man slashing meat stuffed gloves etc...

oh you gon dun it now boi..... seriously joe-bob..... do you own any striders or are you just talking about something you feel perfectly qualified to speak on the subject of because you read about it on the internet.

Mick strider makes some damn good knives and myself and others on this forum are big fans, i currently own only one knife a msc slcc but i cant wait to get an sng to put into my pocket. all the strider hatin on this forum is total BS if you dont like them than dont buy them its that simple quite spouting crap that defames knife makers and turns people off of buying decent knives its like the people that spit venom on the sebenza most have never owned one but they just cant resist saying: dont buy it, its over priced. it keeps good makers from getting business and quality nives out of the hands of knife users.

Saw it coming from a mile away. Nobody said that the Strider company doesn't make solid knives. joe bob answered the OP as to why some don' t like LT. He commented on CS knives not Strider. Chill out.

Knives are ok but Lynn C. Thompson is an animal killer who tries to compensate for things unsaid. I could go on but the glue factory picked up this horse a long time ago. "GoGo Gadget Flamesuit."

meh... its not like im here to defend mick striders honor im not even really a strider fan boy i just get fed up. it never changes.

CS does not really make any knives as they contract it all out and import a lot of their stuff. Every company out there makes Good, Better and Best in their own line. CS imports some good stuff and some cheap stuff.

On another note, excuse some of these no it all types that can't see that you have 4 posts, you are suppose to know all that stuff like they do.

Almost everyone here seems to have met the owner of CS, he has even gone so far as to kick their dogs and stuff.

There should be some kind of Cold Steel Sticky so posters can just go there or get directed to it.

Do people really make accounts to start these threads for entertainment?

Guys, I'm relatively new to knife collecting. What's this I read about the owner of Cold Steel saying something bad about the owner of Strider? What are the details of this?

Personally I have decided never to buy from Cold Steel or Strider because I've seen negative things about both written on these forums, which seem to come up again and again. Some people here say Strider is overpriced for what it is, and others say Cold Steel is of poor quality (and the cheap steels they use seem to confirm this).

Think for yourself, buy what you like

Please god can't we have an all-purpose Cold Steel thread stickied somewhere that addresses this ancient issue?

I do think for myself, but there are so many knife companies out there and I have such limited funds that I can only afford a tiny percentage of all the knives made each year. Thus, I try to do research into the various companies and knives so I can at least narrow the list down some. Part of the research is, of course, browsing around BladeForums. Cold Steel is one of the top criticized companies, but even if it weren't, I don't like the cheap steels they use. Strider was mentioned again and again in the thread asking about overpriced knives, and looking at their website and prices, I tend to agree that they are overpriced.

James0723, when you read about a company's knives in the General Knife Discussion, and someone interjects a remark that has nothing to with the quality or utility of those knives, scan on past it. That kind of distraction belongs in FEEDBACK or Whine & Cheese.

We call these distractions "political" as in 'office politics'. In any industry there will be people who don't play well with each other. This rarely correlates with the value of their products.

It is true that there are some companies that I myself prefer not to deal with. My decision, taken after careful thought. I will not accept anyone else's opinion in making that decision.
