I belive Aus-8a in fact be the de-stressed as opposed to Aus8. :)

I actually thought that too, but in a thread that I couldn't find, I remember Sal Glasser saying that they're the same. I'm not really sure too.
 
AUS8A is AUS8 in the annealed form.

So, you buy AUS8A, shape it into a knife, then harden it. The resulting blade is AUS8.
