I've been admiring Cold Steel's spear, the Assegai. No one here carries it, so I can't see it or touch it for myself. Does anyone have this? If so, how do you like it? I like Cold Steel's products and I trust the words of the good folks in this forum. In other word, how does it "feel" in the hand? How is the balance? How's the spearhead? I'm looking for "feel" because I'll be walking distances with it. Your opinions are valued! Thank you.

yes, i bought one. where are you gonna be walking with this thing?!

it has excellent balance; the hardwood shaft is set up correctly on the blade also- when you look at it, you can see that it goes far enough into the length of the spear itself and then down further on the neck is where the screws hold the head onto the shaft, so it's structurally sound; no weakness from attaching the head too far up on the shaft (i hope that makes sense!). the spear end is wicked! it's large, leaf-shaped, pointier than pointy! just a slight bit of flex in it (which is also good) that doesn't affect the strength in my opinion. BTW, i got it with the 6 ft. pole. then i sawed that down to 5 ft., which is what i wanted, and i gave it a nice honey-brown varnish. Now, this is one impressive spear. the only one i would recommend more would be their Boar Spear; but i think the Assegai is plenty strong as well as throwable (not sure how far one could get throwing the boar spear). mine sits upstairs; a very unwelcome sight for anybody who may make it past the dog and up the stairway. the shorter length gives me the right amount of maneuverability as well as reach.
check out my other post on CS's shovel. i think it's something every CS fan should have..

Thank you; that's exactly what I wanted to hear! I'll order one pretty soon. Where would I walk with it? There's a lot of isolated canyon bottoms and forest areas I hike in around here. I prefer not to carry firearms. I usually carry my bow, but sometimes the whole quiver and bow rig can be inconvienient for just hiking and not stump-shooting. So, again, thank you very much for your reply.
