What does anyone think of these? First, I'm giving my impressions on why I am even looking at or thinking about these CS slips.
I have been wanting to buy a slipjoint with a more useful blade shape than the ones I currently have. (Case Toothpick - blah, and Rough Ryder Cotton Sampler, it's great, I love it, but that wide ricasso makes cutting certain things a weird thing - honestly, I like my Winchester slippie the best. Good walk & talk, sharp steel, compare it to a Chinese Schrade OT Workmate and an Imperial mini-stockman and it's way better).
Seeing as though GEC seems to run their whole company based on the "sprint run" ideal, I will just patiently wait and see if I can purchase a new, red micarta GEC one day. Until then, I have been eyeing carbon steel Rough Ryders, not through choice, it just seems like I could pay a lot more for a worse product from Case. The RR has good fit and finish, and the steel is okay for me. So, I wonder if a Cold Steel slipjoint might be the budget slipjoint I need until I can get a nice slipjoint. Say slipjoint one more time...
I like Cold Steel, and quite simply I have not given their true work knives enough of a chance. I love their XLs, the "tactical" stuff, just because it tickles something inside and makes me happy. But, for work knives I have always went with Spyderco, or Ontario, or anything. My GRIK, though, Tri-Ad, small 3" blade, is so, so good, though. I wonder then, how do they do with slipjoints? Good, bad, or just "Meh, it's like Kershaw made a slipjoint"?
Black, yellow, and blue bone trappers and mini-trappers in 8cr. No exp. with bone but I know it ain't blue and yellow, could one conceivably Rit-Dye that?
Experiences, thoughts, opinions?
