I am a sucker for big folders. I was surprised to see some internet companies selling a new giant one from Cold Steel, but have not read about it on this forum! I ordered one of these Cold Steel's new Voyager CS29XXC and should have it next week.

It looks very cool. 6" non serrated spear point blade with a 7 1/4" handle. Yes, I know that CS folders look a little out of place next to a Mike Snody custom and various other more expensive knives in my collection. But what the hell. If you like it: buy it!!

But is it legal to carry in your area??????

Yep, I've got my share of drawer knives too.

Tightwad: You bring up a good point. I try hard to follow "most" of the rules and regulations which the government puts on our shoulders, but any knife that I own I will carry. On the other hand I will not walk around with a 5" fixed blade on my hip, in certain areas. However, a nice SIFU, or CS giant folder in your jeans pocket is inconspicuous and pretty safe to carry. I am a 51 year old HD rider who has never, in my life, been frisked by an officer or had any problems of that kind at all. I think it is usually a matter of having common sense, using your "head", and being respectful.

If you like it, buy it. I got a CS extra large clip point Voyager recently. Who's selling this 6" spearpoint? I haven't seen it anywhere, including the Cold Steel sites.

Jayharley, I was a bit worried that you might be offended buy
my observation. I guess that I'm keenly aware that a lot of younger
impressionalable folk's vist the forums and don't always sort out
truth from fiction.

It is a great pleasure to read your response because it points out
responsible ownership and ...............responsible behavior. The
only real defense against "do gooders" who don't like knives or guns.

I look at it this way.....If just one comment I make keeps one kid from
harm or jail I can risk lots of flames.

Enjoy your new toy,mate.

Esav Benyamin: I bought mine from Roger at Bayou Lafourche Knife Works.

Tightwad: No offense taken at all. I also do not mean to give the impression that I go thruough life without concern of legalities. I don't care what type of tool an individual carries (a knife, a screwdriver, wrench, hammer etc), if you act threatening or disrespectful to others, you will get in trouble. I have found if you are tough, wise, a bit street smart, and respectful, you can usually go through most situations without interference and gain respect at the same time.

You are correct, there most likely are many younger impressionable folk's visiting the forums. However, our "desire" as fellow members is to discuss knives in an intelligent fashion. What someone does with our forum "conversations" and how our posts are interpreted is something none of us can be responsible for. Thanks and take care.

Thanks for bringing these new Cold Steels to my attention. I was not aware they were out, but now have one on the way!

Geez JayHarley, you'll need to cut the bottoms out of your pants pockets to make this giant fit!! This is definitely one big, bad, folder. We all know it won't be big enough for Glockman99, the SIFU king, just kidding.

Here's a picture of it, I wish there was something next to it for scale, but you can still see how monstrous this sucker is!!

Compliments of Bayou Lafourche's web site.

Aries59: I wonder why this new Voyager has been kept hidden? Over the past couple of years many CS supporters have said that they would have purchased the giant Vaquero Grande if a similar sized version would be made in a more traditional blade shape and no serrations. Now CS has one and most folks don't know about it.

wire edge: Yes. I wonder where I can buy a pair of those really baggie jeans that kids wear today? Those pockets might be big enough. I might have to venture to the mall this week end! ha ha

Jayharley,
I am curious why there is not more talk of this new mega-folder myself.Like you, I enjoy carrying a big folder and have never had any problems doing it.I have owned 5 or 6 Cold Steel folders over the years but only have two left. A Vaquero Grande and a XL plain edged clip point Voyager. I cut some fairly large tree limbs with the XL voyager. It still takes a razor edge and looks like new. They are some very tough knives and a good value for the money.

Well, mine is on the way now, also. I was just at Bayou Lafourche recently, and these must have gone up just after! Thanks a lot for the tip.

He also has the CUDA Maxx 5.5 for the best price I've seen on it yet. Megafolders forever!

Good points all around about carrying these big blades in public. I use my extra large Voyager in the kitchen, no problem there. My old Vaquero Grande goes to the woods with me, cutting weeds and vines along the trail, like a small machete.

The VG fits nicely in most front pockets :D

Jay,
You definatly get a lot of knife for the money.I frequently in
my rotation an extra large voyager tanto. It is light enough to carry
comfortably and even though the hadle is large the profile is minimal
and even better in dress pants.

Actually, the Cold Steel clip-point Voyagers ARE good knives "for the money". I have had a few of 'em, and the XL (5 inch blade) was pretty darn impressive, so I can imagine how the 6 inch blade version is!
However, I DO like my REKAT Sifu(s) the most...There's just SOMETHING about how GOOD it feels in my hand!.:).

I think these folders are just making their way into the supply chain. I heard about them a couple weeks ago as a new cold steel product. Cold steels web site, is often way behind the curve so you cant look there for information.

I don't yet own one these giant folders, but I'm becoming intrigued with the idea. The new CS piece does look like it has a certain...charm.

Going by my 6" Vaquero Grande -- there's a knife I'd like to see with a plain edge -- and my 5" clippoint Voyager, this new version is going to be a short cutlass! Be careful with it, it's a heavy blade with a razor edge.

I can't wait for mine to arrive! I can't wait, and a CUDA Maxx coming in March, too ... !

Well folks, I just received my Cold Steel's new Voyager CS29XXC. Arrived about 10 minutes ago, and I will say that this thing is giant. Makes my SIFU look small (really!). The blade is literally 6" long, no serrations and is 1 1/2" at the widest point.

I must admit that the size if this thing is a bit absurd, but that is one of the reasons I bought it. It is extremely sharp, as per most of Cold Steel's products. No comment on how well it is made, but the quality should be what we all expect from CS (a good value for the money). Time will tell on how well it holds up.
