Some things I'm interested about:

1. To how polished level are cold steels USA made knives sharpened? Grit & method?

2. Are cold steels USA made knives's bevels at the same level of polish out of box as in those awesome csknives youtube videos, or are they specially sharpened for those performances?

3. In those test videos, is it the same weapon through whole show or is it swapped/ re-sharpend in between clips?

I'm interested because I want to know how refined and polished edge I need in order to make such impressive cuts. I keep my knives shaving sharp condition by freehand, but I'm wondering if I can leave bigger knife/sword on a lower degree of polishment and still do so monstrous cuts with ease. Enlighten me.

I own a Cold Steel Recon 1.
1. IDK, I lack the tools to test.
2. The initial sharpness is not polished, but is still very sharp.
3. I would on any day of the weak put money that they do not swap out the knives, Lynn Thompson makes great knives and he leaves in the errors he makes in the videos. The factory edge should do what is in the video, I have no doubt (the tri ad lock is TOUGH and gives benchmade a run for the money).
Lastly, when doing the cuts he does, yes a lot is sharpness, but its also being able to line the edge with the degree you chop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLmzeGV1sQo

Yeah, what knives are you talking about, CS doesn't have any US made knives, and hasn't in quite some time.

All Cold Steel knives I own came arm hair shaving sharp out of the box. So far I've only been slightly unhappy with my 4" Talwar, and that took a lovely edge after some time on the sharpener to 15° per side.

If you can keep a hair shaving edge on any knife then you will be satisfied with your Cold Steel cutting tools.

As for their cutting tests, I would guess they do sharpen them when they feel the need, especially after ramming a knife through a car door or something like that. Cold Steel make strong knives, and sell them sharp, but enough cutting and anything will lose an edge. As others will point out, their machetes don't come razor sharp, they expect you to finish them for your use, so if you see a cutting test with a machete then it will have been sharpened.

Many of the machete models made now come with a very good edge on them.

Everything I've got from Cold Steel, other than their machetes, has been very sharp. With the machetes, the older models pretty much have no edge, and you will definitely have to sharpen them. Their newer machete models(kopis, jungle, royal kukri, barong, all terrain chopper, probably others) have also seemingly started to come sharp, albeit not as sharp as their knives. They do have a useable edge, enough to actually use them as machetes, though if you want them razor sharp you'll still have to touch them up some.
