not sure if this should be in sword discussion --
has anyone removed the pommel of a cold steel hand and a half sword. looks like either a pin or a cap nut protrudes through the 'ball' of the pommel. the one i have came cheap from ebay and is a little dinged up so i want to maybe do some mods. i took the channel locks, tentatively, to the possible cap nut but was unable to get any rotations. did some unfruitful googling and forum searching, cold steel and here. thanks.

It is a cap nut. You might try a thick piece of leather and a vice grip to get it off. I'm not sure if they use any sort of thread locker or epoxy on them, but I don't think so. If it doesn't give in with a fair amount of force, you might try heating it a bit with a propane or butane torch or heat gun and try again (in case there is any adhesive/locker in there).

so i got the cap nut out, but now i'm having a hard time with the pommel itself. maybe i'm being too ginger. it wiggles back and forth a bit but no movement otherwise. anyone got any ideas?
thanks.

The nut should be the only thing holding the pommel on, other than it fitting down over the handle a bit. There may be another nut under the pommel to hold the grip on separately (not totally sure on this one), but (if so) it shouldn't hinder the pommel coming off. The pommel may just be tightly fitted over the end of the grip. You may just need to pull on it a bit harder, but I'd wait and see if anyone else has a suggestion before you go ahead and attempt it. I haven't seen one of these apart, just going on other CS swords that I have seen taken down, so I don't want to suggest anything that'll mess up your sword. Maybe this could be moved to the Cold Steel section? They'd be best able to advise you, I'd think. In any case, I'd also suggest calling up their customer service (phone is way better than email with CS) and see if they can guide you along.

Thanks for the reply. I will try calling on Monday. I would have no problem with this thread being moved to cold steel, wasn't sure exactly where to place this in the first place.

my own is the MAA version of the hand-and-a-half and i have taken it apart but mine, unlike the one pictured, has a screw holding up the whole thing
