Coldsteel counter point/ wave mod

It looks like the thumb stud screws out easily enough. Based on the pivot geometry, I'd say "yes" tentatively.

Zip tie may work, but there is enough spine showing when folded to cut a proper wave hook instead. You can always try the zip tie first and keep it if it works, or wave mod the knife if the zip tie fails.

Or zip tie it to see if you enjoy/are comfortable with this as a waved knife. Then, if you like waving it and it works well, grind it to give it a permanent wave.

If you're up to having waves ground on your knives, PM charlie mike. He's the Weroance of Waving.

I'm always ready to catch the next wave!

I think that a "surf-up" attached with thumbstud would work better than zip tie, and you don't have to cut the blade to wave it.

Where can one buy a "surf-up" aftermarket hook like you show in the photo? Google was no help. Thanks.

Unfortunately, you have to do it yourself, it has to be fitted to particular knife. It's not hard to make it, all you need is scrap of aluminium/brass, drill, files and sandpaper.

Thanks. It gets captured by the thumb stud and has a rabbet filed into it to register against the spine so it does not rotate when used, right?

Can someone post a picture of this zip tie mod or explain it?

YT vide you you :)

Exactly :) I made few surf-ups, they work very well and look better than ghetto wave/zip tie wave.
I tried to do this with Recon 1, but the lockbar tension is too strong to use surf-up - it doesn't open completely and tears pockets. I have an mini-AK-47 with the same lock, and using thumb plate as wave of course works well, so it depends on a model. We'll see how strong lock spring is in Counterpoint.

Just a word of caution. I don't know about everyone else's CS knives with thumbscrews but my American Lawman's must be stripped. It simply rotates but won't come out. It doesn't move back/forth, just rotates in its hole. This new, directly from the factory. BTW, I'm very happy to see CS introduce the Triad Lock to most of their folders. IMO it's the best lock out of all available, except maybe Extreme Ratio's RAO but that's something altogether different.

The thumbstud consists of two parts, joined with a thread, you have to immobilize one part (I used a pair of pliers and a scrap of leather to avoid stripping) and screw out the other.

made this myself out of a mighty dog can using a dremel
