So whats the word on the Coldsteel R1?

I was looking for a Randal type knife like this but do not have the funds for a Randal.

What say you?

The R1 probably isn't built as ruggedly as a Randall, but it should be OK. The R1's AUS8 steel is not known for good edge-holding. But then, neither is the 440B stainless used by Randall, and the O1 knives have a low hardness which reduces edge-holding.

I heard Blackjack was going to re-introduce a version of the Randall Model 1, but have not seen any for sale yet. That would be a better choice than the Cold Steel knife - if it is ever made again.

Blackjack by Warner SHOULD redo it.....
The O1 is gonna be fine for the knives intended purpose (hey many of them went through wars)

I based my comment on O1 and edge-holding on a review Cliff Stamp did of a couple of Randall knives. He did not find the edge-holding of the O1 or the stainless Randall he tested to be that great.

I have a Randall Model 14 in O1 myself. I love the knife, due to the quality of construction and the design. It is certainly rugged enough for military use.

I absolutely love mine.

Good steel, incredible sheath. Crazy sharp from the box and just feels right in the hand.

Newer ones have a floppier sheath, so include a Sullivans sheath while you're at it

Second time I've seen this claim...mine is brand new and the sheath is anything but floppy. Do you mind posting a picture of yours?

Just looking at the picture posted by THR-Thumper, it appears that the forward upper portion of the blade is not sharpened like the Randall. Is that the case?

I've handled Melancholy Mutts and I'm not sure if it was the leather dye but it wasn't as stiff as a KaBars. I've handled another one and that was fine. Maybe it was only certain batches
