Just wondering if anyone had more info about Coleman pocketknives. I picked up a couple of these on ebay. Smokey Mountain had these for big money on their xmas catalog but they can be had on the bay for about 20 bucks. Quality is pretty good, the sowbelly is a handful of stockman, over 4 inches. On the tang is stamped AUS 6, Seki Japan. They seem to be a real decent bargain.

handles are genuine stag, but not very well figured. The scales look like the ones from the old Parker knives. Still no complaints at the price point.

I picked out a couple of the blue bone handles, a trapper and a sowbelly. Ordered 'em off the web. Slipped the Sowbelly out of the box and unwrapped it, the gold shield dropping to the floor. A spot of super glue fixed it.

The trapper's clip blade was riding a little high, high enough to draw blood if I reached into my pocket to get it. Less than a minute with the Dremel tool, taking a bit off the kick, fixed that.

Despite that, I like the knives. Quality control isn't much, and I bet most people would have made a big stink over the problems I mentioned.

Twentyone bucks for the sowbelly, 16 for the trapper. I know the retail price is higher. Are you getting at: "you get what you pay for?" I generally do agree with that.

As I say, I do like the knives. I do think many folks would have sent them back, however. Probably never to buy another Coleman folder.

I was just wondering if these knives you are discusing are similar to the ones I have seen blister packed....a trapper and a sowbelly stockman and I think they said 440c for the blade steel.....they seemed cheap at under ten bucks.
Japanese made from what i can remember.

actually shots, I wasnt even thinking that. I was actually hoping you did not pay too much for it.

Defects can happen with any knife. usually it is the lower end ones though.

I have a queen that I bought that I opened the paper it was wrapped in and the shield fell out of it! It can happen with anything!!

I have to say though, if they are made in seki thay should be pretty decent knives.
