I encountered some issues with my Coleman lantern, and haven't really messed with it since. Figured I could check with you guys for advice.

It's one of the models that takes gasoline rather than white fuel. Wife got it for me at a yard sale years ago, and I cleaned it up & put new mantles in it. It worked great for like a couple years. Now, instead of burning the fuel properly it actually flames. Ya know, instead of making that nice soft glow as the gas burns within the mantles, now actual flames around 7" long come flowing out. Can't put the lid/glass on like that.

I noticed this seemed to happen after I refilled it one time... Are they sensitive to the kind of gas used (i.e., with ethanol or not)? Think maybe a particle is clogging things up somewhere? I dumped out some gas thinking maybe I just overfilled it, but that didn't help, and neither did replacing the mantles.

I'm not familiar with these lanterns, but I would think there is some sort of jet nozzle to aerosolize the gasoline before it enters the mantles. I would think if these jets weren't there or weren't doing their job you might get results such as what you're getting, but this is all really conjecture, so take it for what its worth. Perhaps you could find a user manual online for your model? I'm sure somone here will have an answer for you though.

It needs a new generator about any place that sells the lantern will have them. Or try cleaning the old one with parts cleaner. Chris

:D Guess I should've checked the FAQ's on Coleman's website before opening my mouth. Sounds like I should clean out the tubes that carry fuel and air first...
