bought my first refillable butane at my local tobacco shop.

a colibri CX gear............lit about 10 cigarettes with it and now it doesn't work!! ??? it didn't get wet at all.
i get a spark but no flame....tried adjusting the flame screw....no luck

instructions say i may have an air lock problem

why would a $34 lighter not work and a $1 BIC lighter work dependably?

why is colibri still in business?

they are "finicky" imho, i have had several of them and have sent them all back at 1 time/ another for service, when they work they are great but not as dependable as a bic imho. they always fix them under warranty, but ya would think they could do better.......i dont know why they clog up, thats the prob i had, i always used colibri fuel, followed instructions, WTF?

the last one i got messed up w/in a wk of purchase, i sent it back, they sent me another one and its worked flawlessly for 2 yrs now, go figure. it is one of the heavy duty looking ones, forgot the model, but i prefer the slim gold ones, i have had 3 of them all broke, scared to use them now lol.

That's why i use the Windmill Delta. It's been in my pocket for more than 2 years now and it's still working like new.

I own 7 colibri firebird models at $7 each and all work like a charm with no issues.

the reason for so many is they are cheap and each one gets stored in different location(3 trucks, boat, atv, house, my pocket)

sorry you arent happy, hopefully the company will square you away.

Colibri is the company that convinced me to stay away from refillable butane lighters. I've had five of them and they've all died, sooner or later. Maybe Colibri has gotten better since I got mine, about ten years ago, but bill_G seems to be having the same difficulties, now. In my opinion, the Colibri lighters might be too complicated for their own good. After my long-ago Colibri episode, I've decided to stay with Bics and Zippos. The Windmill Delta sounds like a refillable butane lighter that works better, from the various lighter thread replies I've seen.

Many, many moons ago I worked in a tobacco shop. Dead Colibris were a plague- I'll never own one. Sorry you're having trouble.

I bought one of the CX gear real cheap on a sale and it never worked, I own two less expensive ones, one works every time and has been good for years, it lives on my night table and lights a cigar every evening, the other one rides daily on a neck lanyard under my shirt. it takes a couple of tries to light but works though I've abused it a bit.

Just yesterday I bought a similar Chinese made for a little under US $5 and it has worked fine till now, time will tell if it is good.

Chinese made disposables that I get here at 3 for about $1 US work fine too.

I have one and it works pretty well. Lights all the time and floats on water! (I've tested it)

Don't mean to offend but did you refill it? :)

Ditto. I've got 2 that get used regularly. No problems for over 5 years now.

I may have to adjust the "flow" depending on gas level or weather (cold, rain, etc), but that is it.

The "air lock" problem is a common issue.

Bleed the tank, fill'er up again and see how it goes from there.

I agree that Colibri sucks though.

I've had my Brunton Helios for 'bout 5 years now. Still works fine. On the other hand, I don't seem to use it very much. I tend to use my Bics and Zippo's much more often.

I have two old cricket lighters that I stored in 1975, they still work well, and are still over one half full.

I wish Surefire would put out a HA-III ultra reliable pocket torch (lighter) that works at high elevations.

Well, i ordered a windmill thru ebay.......we'll see how that works.....not the delta but their regular one......the delta looks to be too thick for me

its gotta work better than colibri

I've had many Colibri over the years and they ALL suck!
I used to get the cool cigar cutter ones....BAH!

I use a "Sportsman's Lighter" Same as the Delta $8 @ Walmart Sporting goods.
Longes lasting lighter of the ignition that I've ever had. Over a year now....
I use Colibri fluid in it....
