Is there a break-down saw out there that takes standard bucksaw blades? I have a Trail Blazer saw that does a fantastic job (I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a break-down saw of its size), but I don't like that it takes special blades. I'd love to have something similar that took basic blades. Does such a thing presently exist?

Doesn't look bad...especially for $25 or so. Do you have any experience with them?

Outdoor Edge Pack Saw
Looks like it has only a 12" blade. This seems like it would be too short to have a real advantage over a good folding saw like a Silky.
Blades for the Trail Blazer seem to be readily available and it comes in 18" and 24" sizes.
Does anyone have any field experience with the Outdoor Edge Pack Saw?

it dosent take much work to make a nice collapsable buck-saw. use a broomhandle for the sides and then a peice of some type of hardwood (oak flooring would work) for the cross peice. i regularly use one that i made without issue.

very cool! That being said I was thinking more along the lines of a metal/composite example. I must confess to liking the more fabricated stuff. Looks like I may be out of luck though.

I have two of the Schmidt pack saws that they mention in their write up. I have used them on canoe camping trips and in the yard quite a bit. I like the "traditional" feel of the wood version, and they seem to work pretty well. Mine take a standard 24" bucksaw blade.
