Well recently I bought a 0550blk with the intention of keeping pristine in order to keep it's value high incase I decided to ever resell it. But now the knife is begging me to carry and use it. Like money burning a hole in my pocket except its a knife so I guess it would be cutting the hole... anyways can someone give a knife collecting noob some guidance. Is this the type of knife that will appreciate in value if it stays in the box or should I plant it firmly in my pocket. :sneakiness:

I bought one myself thinking I'd tuck it away and best case, in a few years maybe sell it and make a modest profit. Worst case I'd end up with a great knife that would provide excellent service. That plan went by the wayside the day after I got it cause that's how long I was able to keep it out of my pocket. Been carrying and using it off and on for awhile now and I'm glad I didn't tuck it away cause it's a great knife and I'd really be missing out if it was in a drawer some where. Best advise I can give you is to consider getting another one, perhaps a blem so you can enjoy your purchase and have one for possible resale later on. While it's not that different from a standard 0550 it is different and that adds some what to potential collector interest.

After I got real comfortable with my 0550 I almost got the 0550BLK as well yesterday. However, instead I opted for a Carbon Fiber Replacement Scale by Hinderer Knives for my 0550. My only complaint on the 0550 is the rough G10 scale even after sanding it down. Also, I'm going to carry it so it'll look great. Later, a 0550BLK and eventually the 0550CBCF (hoping).

Is the 0550BLK a limited edition? Seems I see it for sale at a few different places..to be collectable wouldn't it need to be a limited edition..like the 0560CBCF?

I'd say use it. It might appreciate some in value, but I don't think this is one of those you'd be able to turn a significant profit on. It is a limited edition, but it is a variation based on a production model (versus other highly desirable ones, like the Volt 3600, TiLT, 0777, etc.). You might profit a hundred bucks or so after a few years, but in my opinion, you're better off enjoying the knife now and figuring out other ways to make that money (investments, work a PT job for a couple of days, mow 3-4 yards, etc.).

There were 338 0550BLK's made.
Its actually a couple hundredish more then that, they did another small run after the 338 were made...why BladeHQ and other places had them pop up, Dave couldn't hold on to all of them. Was supposed to be a Kershaw Guy Exclusive.

Ahh, gotcha.

Was supposed to be a Kershaw Guy Exclusive.

I just ordered one of the ZT 0550BLK from KershawGuy. He gave me a discount as a repeat customer since I also got a ZT 0700 Extra Wide Tanto from him earlier today. My first transactions with him... Smooth and painless...

This was actually never meant to be an exclusive , except in my mind. I bought the original run of 338 and then they did some more and I made the decision to let them go, did not want anymore money tied up in inventory at the time. But still as stated there will be less than 500 out there which makes them very collectable and they are a very nice knife as they are 2nd Gen, as well, I put a blue scale on one and it is sweet, orange would be nice as well. Ok back to work dave.

I'd love a kershawguy exclusive. Has there been any exclusives from Dave before Chet?

Picture?

Woah. Repeat customer discount? I may have to get one......after I rebound from my 0560CBCF purchase.

By the way, that repeat customer discount by KershawGuy was restricted to the 0550BLK.

Personally, after an initial break-in and familiarization period, I find the 0550 the "handiest" of all ZT knives and I'm hoping for a 0550CBCF version.

I bought my 0550BLK because of the rarity and I wanted a 0550. I didn't plan to carry it, plans change. Then I got a Rival scale.

Get it, and you decide.
