Is the 2000 super commander collectible? I know it was the first year of production for the super commander. If so would Ernie have ground the blades himself, similar to the 98 commander? Any thoughts or history that you guys and gals might know?

I know he hand ground the 98 commanders, as far as the 2000 I don't see why there would be any collector value to it , unless you found someone who just had to have a commander that was the first year it was mass produced, which I've never heard of just, use it, love it, beat it up , and repeat .FWIW the original "commander " wasn't the commander It was called something else, can't remember what it was called off the top of my head, Mr. Emerson made some for a seal team and they were the super commander you know now. Well in 1998 he introduced the commander it had a 3.75 inch blade instead of the 4 inch blade of the knife he had made for the seal teams. I think the original "super commander " was the ES1-M now if you had one of those or a 98 commander who might have something, but you never know. I just don't see what would boost the value of it up of a 2000 commander vs a 2012 commander IMO most people would just see a 13 year old knife, and would think it would be worth less, now this is just my opinion you never know I'm about to research it and may look like an idiot if i do I'll report back .Wait a minute does your 2000 commander have a T.A.D. logo on it?

so its a custom? you got pics?specwar usually means custom , If you can post pics that's gonna change everything if it's a specwar with the true satin finish you have something.

It should be worth noting here that Ernie did not grind the blades on the '98 Commanders. They were factory made knives. It is accepted wisdom that he may have ground SOME of the blades, most likely a few of the true satin ones. The original knife design for these was the ES1-M, which was designed as a SERE knife for some units at Ft. Bragg. After a few modifications, the Coronado Teams ordered a total of 200 of these, which featured 4" chisel ground recurve blades, all customs carrying the SpecWar logo. This was in 1995-6. In 1998, the Commander made its debut, a ~80% sized version of that knife with a double ground recurve, and was promptly named Blade Show Knife of the Year. Later, a 4" bladed version of the Commander, called a Super Commander, made its appearance. These had the EKI logo on them. A few have been made bearing the SpecWar logo, which indicates they are custom made knives. If a EKI logo'd knife, its worth about the same as a current one; if SpecWar logo'd, its a solid $1-1,200 knife assuming excellent condition.

The only thing I can think of is the older Emerson's had titanium liners on both sides( up until '08 ?)
