I have an old knife that I saw on a photo post. It is and old ad knife from Julius Wile Importers Compliments of Moe Plaksin. Do people collect these knives and are they worth anything?

You need a membership to ask about value. If you want information about a knife, please post a picture. There are a lot of knowledgeable folks around here!

Don’t really know about value, to me that is not the important part, but advertising knives are a cool snap shop of history, and I like their slogans and designs to catch the buyers’ attention. I like brass sleeve boards. Sometimes it is cool to learn about the companies, some have survived and others are long gone.

I will see if I can show one or two I have.

To clarify, you need a paid membership with selling privileges, to ask about values (too many were using such threads to try and sell without using the exchange)

You are a registered user, or unpaid member. A Gold membership or higher is required to discuss value. At your current level, you would need to use an image hosting site such as imgur. Paid members can post pics directly.

It is not necessarily that I am looking to sell, but I just wondered if they are collectible and worth anything. I have a sword from Japan my Dad bought late 40s early 50s, which I may share at some point.

Finally found the advertising knife, all metal construction. The company was also in Alexandria, VA and in North Carolina, some kind of leather tanneries, and wood bending (?). Was in business from late 1800s to around 1940, wiped out in a flood, not sure if the one is NC was flooded or the one in Alexandria. Found an advertising in a paper from 1904. The Dolphin Cutlery Co., New York City, was an importer of German cutlery, and was around 1918 to the 1920s. I have seen straight razors from this cutlery company. I got the knife from my wife’s grandfather. I added a touch of three-in-one oil and the blades have good walk and talk for a knife at or almost 100 years old. Any info on the company advertised or the cutlery company would be cool.
