Collecting/Trading just for experience.

I used to buy knives that I thought I needed or that I thought I'd use.

Then I got into Microtechs and collected them because I thought they were cool and fun.

Now, finally after several years of collecting, I've come to terms with the fact that I just want to experience and use a lot of different knives, even if just for a little while and trade them off again.

Really, I already have all the knives I'll ever need and more. But, still, I sell and trade. I think I'm realizing that I really only want to experience all that's out there.

I trade for something, play with it for a while, carry it a bit, test it a bit and get interested in other things so I trade the same knife off for something else I think is interesting.

In this manner, my collection grows SLOWLY because I, occasionally, get one I cannot part with.

I'm OK with this now that I've figured out what I'm doing and realized that it doesn't bother me.

I actually used to do this with guns, but lately I've been keeping a few and just customizing the hell out of the ones I have.

Right now I just want to be able to fondle any knife that turns me on and if it doesn't do it for me, dump it for another.

I GUESS I'M JUST A KNIFE SLUT!:D :D :D

Well, I think you are more of a knife trick/john - the knife is the slut/hooker.

Have you ever seen a knife that went from one person to the next and within a year it had "been with" 10 or more owners?

That's a slut in anyone's book ;)

I've been there done that and have a dresser full of t-shirts. At some point you will come close to seeing everything you want to see, then you'll go back and buy all of the ones you wished you had not gotten rid of. Then, if you're like me, you will hit this equalibrium where everything is right in the world and you just want to selectively sample pieces that have a high likelyhood of being kept.

I think it's a natural transition of feeling like you have to "catch up" to all of the guys who have been doing this for years :D

Maybe so. When I'm done being the sharpest pimp in Denver maybe I'll settle down.;)
